Help me choose a new valve amp (metal)

Hi, i am looking for a new combo

I want all valve/tube, 30-50 watts, great cleans so i can use my metal muff pedal with it at sensible volumes, an amp that doesn't need biasing everytime i change the tubes. at least 1x12" speaker, possible 2?

I play a lot of heavy stuff so i would be great if the amp has that kind of voicing although i also dabble in acoustic like clean stuff with folk elements etc.

i currently have a laney lc15 ad althugh its great it just doesn't fit the bill i.e needs biasing, only 10" speaker, only 15 watts.

what are you suggestions? i have about £300 to spend, cheers

I'd say Classic 30. It wont do metal by itself though. You'd have to use your muff.

Re: Help me choose a new valve amp (metal)

Almost any amp can do metal, with the assistance of a good distortion pedal. I'm gonna recomend a crate valve amp. I've been really gasing for the v15 palomino. I've loved all the ones i've played, and heard nothing but good things about the others.

New or used Peavey 5150/6505 or Triple X (used - the 212 is no longer in production). They come in a 212 version, have bias trim pots, sound very good, and need no assistance for metal.

there is no way in the world i will be able to get even a second hand 5150/6505, in the uk at least, not sure about elsewhere. the xxx possibly. i am a fan of peavey and i would love any of those amps

if you like the Laney why don't you get a LC30, LC50 or maybe a VC30. I'd also look into a DSL 401. Bad arse little amp that is. Another more expensive option would be a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb 1x12 combo. I don't know what your budget is.

I think Diezel makes a 50w combo. That's the best combo amp I can think of besides an Engle Screamer.

because all of those amps require biasing jobs to be done when replacing tubes and i can't be bothered with that

That's just a fact of life with tubes amps. Realistically you shouldn't have to change tubes but every year or two and it's cheap to take it somewhere and get the work done.

Mesas do not require biasing, but they do require Mesa tubes for warranty while new or tubes with proper draw for the bias that the amp is set at (Mesa tubes are color coded, many vendors will match tube specs when ordering for a Mesa).
