Help me choose a new year amp

Hi guys! I hope everyone had an excellent holiday season and new year.

I've been on a search these past few months for another amp. I have a DSL and a Ceriatone Chupacabra already. I'm interested in something a bit different. An amp that will work well with single coils and humbuckers. Something with a different flavor than what I already have, but still able to rock when I need it. 40 watts or less. I'd like to stay within the $700 range or less.

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

I just got a Bugera G5
It has a morph knob that changes the tone stack from British to American
Two channels
A ton of tonal options
They make a 20 watt version, the G20

The G5 can be had for $199 on proaudiostar dot com

I forgot to mention, I also have a Boss Katana head. So, I'm assuming that covers what the Bugera has?

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

Hmm... you've got British low, mid, and high gain pretty well covered, so maybe a PRS Tremonti? Or a used Mesa Single Rectifier? If you're willing to increase your budget just a bit, you can get a used Dual Recto or Mark III for a grand.

EDIT: 40 watts or less, you're looking for the Tremonti in all probability. The Single Recto is 50, but it's not exactly a low-volume amp, to say the least, and the Mark V: 25s are still over a grand used.

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

Those singles (I'd suggest the rectoverb in this case) get loud very fast. They also do not have that send knob on back to help tame it like their bigger bros.

They do now have a smaller rectoverb head and combo iirc,,, (like 30w maybe),not near as many on the used market though, compared to duals or singles.

How is the Tremont different from say, a 5153 LBX? Or the DSL that I have?

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

I get something really versatile since you've got the British covered.

Maybe 22W Fender 1968 Deluxe Reverb reissue with Celestion G12-70 or 1965 Deluxe with Jensons

both can be had for 700-800 new on sale.

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

I'd say add some American flavor to your British army and get a Jet City JCA22.

Can you point me to where you've found these new for $700?

The Tremonti is a 6L6 amp with a Recto-style voicing. Bigger bass, rounder treble, fatter lower-mids, less bark, less-pronounced upper mids than your DSL. Closer to the 5153 LBX, but the 6L6s will give it a much more solid and punchy bass with less mush than the LBX, and it's still going to have a midrange that's more "fat" less "aggressive".

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

I see there are 2 versions of the HRD. III and IV?

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

I found the Hot Rod Deluxe at $729

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40-Watt 1x12-Inch Guitar Combo Amplifier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YU2MJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_inclCbP3REW6T

The 68 reissue was a bit more

This is what I would do -ALSO remember TS -Brick and Mortar Guitar stores can and do sell for below MAP (Advertised and Online) pricing.

So when you see a Hot Rod Deluxe online for 729 -it can be had at a Fender dealer in person for mid 600s.

That's why I think you can get a 68 Deluxe Reverb for 700s -because they are online for 949 to 1049 depending on the the time of year - I got one for 799 in person at a Fender dealer 2 years ago.

Re: Help me choose a new year amp

How does the HRD compare to the Blues Deluxe? Or even the Peavey Classic or Delta Blues?

HRD is 40 watt 1x12 has an extra drive channel to total 3 (that no one I know uses) and is voiced for lead guitar articulation. -it has a rare Fender effects loop

Blues Deluxe is 40 Watt 1x12 a older tweed style warm amp -HRD is more modern voicing of the Blues Deluxe. BD won't have as much tight bottom end or highs and crispiness as a HRD -BD will be more mid rangy sounding. It has a vintage style Eminence speaker

Peavey Classic is 30 Watts 1x12 and to me the voicing excels in Country/Twangy nicely more than rock or blues -but my classic is also like 30 years old. No idea now what they sound like new

DOn't know anything about the Delta Blues.
