Help me choose the proper cables for home recording

I have an AMT SS-20 (tube preamp in a box) with a Cab Sim output thu 1/4 connector mono that can go to mixer to play live or to a recording interface. I also have a Focusrite 2i2 which takes the CabSim signal of my SS-20 thru a 1/4. My preamp does not have XLR output so that is not an option.

I know if I wanted to connect guitar to recording interface then a guitar cable is the choice since it is similar to connecting guitar to amp, however this is not my case so I wonder if a guitar cable may be stopping me from getting the best recording tone possible (or playing live too by the way). I have some spare guitar cable mogami 2524 to make a new cable for this purpose but still wondering if that kind of cable is the right choice.

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Yes a guitar cable will be fine.

Looks from the specs of the two units that you might be best setting the Focusrite input to 'instrument' as it will handle +4 and the output impedance of the AMT at -10 is high at 10k.

As it is a line level source, a guitar cable will work.
But you can certainly try 'tuning' the output by using different cables and pick the one that works best. If your preamp has a balanced (TRS) compensated output, I would use a TRS patch cable between the preamp and Scarlett.

I took another look at the specs. The AMT SS-20 camsim output has -10 dB gain. At the focusrite the instrument input gain range is -4 to 46 db so I don't think this setting would match, very similar to a test I already did connecting the CamSim output to a microphone imput I have for my desktop speakers and no sound at all :) Anyway I can try it with the Focusrite and see how it works.

The preamp does not have TRS output, just mono output. So a patch cable is another alternative. Anything in the same range of value/price as the mogami 2524 that I already have? Believe it or not it is kind of hard for me to get some cable brands here at home so I really need to do some research and investigate how to order, I cannot just go out look for a guitar center store here.

I am wondering if hermetico may read this thread and give some suggestions :)
