I want a TB-6 for this axe.... The BB3 is actually pretty good... But I think it lacks some harmonics and that SH6 grind that I frickin can't lay off of!

Aesthetics are somewhat important to me though.

Option A: Chrome covered TB6 (I don't mind the aesthetic, but I like the tone of uncovered pickups so much better)

Option B: regular black open TB-6 that doesn't match but who cares... because METAL!

Option C: replace them both with open coil buckers because I DGAF what the neck pickup is because I don't ever play it.
But will it look weird with chrome hardware and black pups?

I'd post a poll but I forget how to on my phone.

Thoughts?

I have a reg open coil bridge with a black nickel neck but thats in a black guitar. Kinda dig the one open, one covered look

While you're at it

Soften the look a bit and saw off them points

I don't see how those things get out of the factory like that
But you see it everyday

Not hard to fix but dang QC

Just get a saw and a rasp and hack em off and it will be fine

That's a sweet Explorer. Me, I would be leaving it as it is. But, I do get you play heavier stuff than me most of the time so the Distortion is a good option. But, I probably would have gotten one covered to keep the stock look.

Amazon dropped off a small box for me today.

I made a quick and dirty vid to show any nuances and tone differences with my gear.

I chose the JVM ch3 orange because it's thick but sounds like a whole lot of Marshall amps.

I chose the Celestion T-75 speakers because they are the most standard speaker I have in the garage.

What I really love about the DD is the quick harmonically rich feedback that just swells in perfectly!

I recorded a quick video with the "not so bad" BB3.... Then installed the DD.... Went back to play it and thought oh crap why does it sound so flat?.... Checked the wiring really quickly.... Thinking oh great, I got a dud.... Turns out I had just clicked the JVM to the nearly clean channel! Ha ha I clicked it back to ch3 and OH HELL YA!! THERE IT IS!!!

Anyhow here is a flavor sampling for anyone who may care to listen.

I liked both in this clip, TBH. Both sounded nice.

But yeah, if you're used to your other guitars having Distortion-class humbuckers, the BB does sound kinda thin and undergained.

My pick would be option B. I always like guitars that have some weird unique thing about them like that though. I love mismatched pickups, or a knob that was replaced with a slightly wrong color at some point, stuff like that. I have a Strat pickguard that I made out of 3 pickups I had laying around, all different aesthetics and colors, and it's my favorite look! Sometimes, having to use whatever is around you, regardless of what it looks like, ends up being the coolest look.
