Help me clone an Antiquity P90 jazz sound in my Strat & Tele

I have an Antiquity P90 Dog Ear neck position in my hollow body jazz guitar. I play clean tone jazz all the time. I love the Antiquity P-90.

So I want to get as close to that same sound also in my Tele and my Strat neck pickups without doing any wood routing or pick guard cutting.

Would the Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II Tele neck pickup get me the closest to Antiquity P90? If not what would be?

And would the Alnico II Strat be closest to Antiquity P90? Or maybe the "Five-Two Strat"?
(My friend put a Little '59 in his Strat neck for jazz, I guess because it's higher output and more versatile.)

Maybe I am pulling at straws. Perhaps only the Antiquity P90 Dog Ear can get that nice mid range clarity that I'm after...

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know that any Tele-sized neck pickup would sound quite like the dog ear P-90, but my guess would be the Antiquity II Tele would be close. You might also consider putting a real-deal P90 in there, or a Phat Cat.

You are going to chase your tail a lot here. I would look to exploring the tele and strat for what they are rather than the futile effort of trying to make them into something they are not.
Of course you can roll off the tone knob a bit, and maybe look to a small boost type pedal to thicken the tone. But they will still be singlecoil fenders.

If you are creative enough maybe people will be looking to get your tone with a jazzbox

Thanks Mincer,

I somehow overlooked that Antiquity Tele neck pickup, it looks like a potential approximation for an Antiquity P90 in my Tele without having to route it.

Here is the complete Antiquity line:

I guess a flat EQ, avoiding scooped mids for trad jazz?

Well, a Jazz humbucker is pretty scooped...I don't think I am buying the Cool Rails EQ graph.

It's not going to happen. No more than a cheeseburger tastes like a strawberry sundae.

Re: Help me clone an Antiquity P90 jazz sound in my Strat & Tele

If you are cool with Custom Shop prices, you could just ask for a Tele and Strat pickup that are both designed to sound similar to the Ant P90.

Re: Help me clone an Antiquity P90 jazz sound in my Strat & Tele

What would those prices be like? I can’t seem to reach anybody at the company.

Use this form to contact them. Custom Shop prices vary due to how much fabrication is needed.

I'm a big fan of a p90 neck in a guitar too. That said, I'll echo that you'll be hard pressed to get that tone in a smaller package. You'll still be missing two full size magnets and the wind is a also altered to. Like Alex suggested, maybe a eq pedal or boost might help you get what you're looking for instead.
