Why does the A2 mag in my Jazz neck feel so much bigger and hotter than the A 5?

for humbuckers, i could happily just have a2 pups. i do love a good a5 strat pup or tele bridge pup. i like the jazz and i like the aph1, usually one fits a guitar better than the other. i believe they are the same pup other than the magnet

And I think the notion that A2 is too loose and chewy in the bass might be erroneous. Now I have one guitar with a Custom Custom in it, and the other guitar with the Alnico II Pro and the bass sounds just fine. I don't perceive it to be too chewy or loose at all.

It really depends on how much low end you have dialed in on your amp. Too much low end can definitely get a little loose, especially for stuff like thrash or metal where tighter response is a bonus. Not unlike the way guys with Dual Rectos have to use a tubescreamer to roll off some of the excess bass they dialed in to their amps.

The Custom Custom is my favorite pickup of the Customs. Feels to me hotter than the Custom 5 in a full mix because of the mid response. Very well balanced and great sounding pickup.

While I can’t explain the “bigger” aspect the “warmer and sweeter” change is exactly what I’d expect from the A2 swap.

But I do love an A2 magnet over any others
I shied away from them for years thinking they are underpowered as compared to the other mag options.
I was 100% wrong.
