Help me decide..

Basically I am looking to buy my first guitar in 10 years and am down to 2 choices I found in a local pawn shop.

First is a USA Hamer Blitz. I didn't get to play it yet but man it looks great. The Strat and Explorer shape are my favourite, but I've never really looked into explorers because the ones with tremolos are either expensive, or a mockery of the original shape. This Hamer looks classy, has dimarzios, and it's got the sustain block tremolo

The other guitar is a G&L Legacy Tribute. I've heard great things about these guitars and that they are top notch quality despite being imports. And I'm a young student and don't have much cash to put together for a nice expensive instrument.

They can both be had at about the same price with the G&L being a bit cheaper.

I'm definitely going to go in and play them but I just thought I'd see what you guys thought. Still can't believe how cheap these are especially considering Im in Australia

Re: Help me decide..

Well inevitably that's what it's going to come down to I just thought I'd get some wisdom to take in the store with me lol

Re: Help me decide..

I doubt those guitars will be at the pawn shop ten years from now. I'm surprised you've been on this forum for 6 years and still don't have your first guitar. j/k

Buy the one you like most.

Re: Help me decide..

I'm very partial to the USA-made G&Ls, and I own a bunch of them. The Tribbies are really nice guitars, great value.

Come on over to the G&L Discussion Page at guitarsbyleo.com and the guys can tell you all about Tributes. They are really popular with many of the guys from Australia.

So I wouldn't wait too long--it probably going to disappear quick!

I can't wait to play them . I just thought i'd see if anyone could give me an opinion about the Hamer Blitz because it's USA made and I think it might last a bit longer but I've read the G&Ls have USA hardware and electronics anyway . I love both humbucker and strat tones but I can't remember the last time I played an Explorer, it was an Epiphone though. I just love the shape , it looks strangely classy. And the fact it has a trem (which I couldn't do without) is perfect

They're both good guitars... Each is a whole different deal: short scale vs. long scale, and three singles vs. two humbuckers. It's the classic Gibson vs. Fender question... I'd spend an hour or more comparing the two, and pick the one that you think will serve you best in your musical endeavors in the next several years.
