Help me find my sold tele - REWARD $$

Read for potential reward money.

Okay, when I was young and dumb I did something really stupid. In september of 2006 I posted an Orlando branded telecaster copy for sale I think on the TDPRI forum. Reviewing the search history here shows I said in a post that it was shipped out by me 9/8/06. It wasn’t a great guitar. Plywood body, worn frets, crappy pickups etc.

So if it sucked why do I need to track it down? This guitar was given to me by my grandmother before she passed away. Around the year 2000 or so. It had belonged to my grandfather (died when I was 7). I wasn’t in the right frame of mind when I sold it. I just didn’t understand. It has haunted me for the past 7 or 8 years. I know we all have ones that we let go and wish we hadn’t, but this one had a sentimental connection I didn’t get until I have aged. After going through some things in life, I decided I want to make an attempt to track it down.

I don’t know who I sold it to in 9/06. I have scoured my email and don’t have any email about the transaction.

I bought the same exact model a few years ago from someone else thinking it would fill the void but it didn’t and I sold it last year on reverb. I need my grandpas guitar.

If any of you can do some online searching and I am able to get into contact with whoever now owns the guitar I am willing to PayPal you $100 for your help, easy money. Please guys if you know anything this is really important to me.

-I only name was joejitsu or joejitsumd
-my email address could have been:
Whittijb@slu.edu
Joejitsu@ucla.edu
Joejitsumd@yahoo.com (most likely)
- Guitar was sold (according to a post on the Seymour Duncan forum) the first week of September in 2006. Pic included of the guitar

Did you check the messages here? Did you check your email for records of the messages that this forum sends as a CC?

Wishing you good luck. I'll keep an eye out for that model of guitar.

Update: Here is the link to the ad I put on harmony central back in 2006. I think here or there is where the buyer contacted me. I have emailed admit at harmony central to get access to my old login.

Also, a month after I sold the guitar, a person with the username "dontbesojumpy" posted on the TDPRI forum that he just bought an orlando telecaster copy and was asking questions about it. It's possible he may be the buyer since it was only a month after my guitar sold. Unfortunately he only has that one post in the entire history of that forum so I can't track him down on there. His profile says he is from oklahoma city.

Good luck...I have a feeling you are going to find it. Hopefully the owner will let it go.

You may.

Post on that thread an PM him.

Most people in forums are lurkers.

Re: Help me find my sold tele - REWARD $$

Do you remember HOW you were paid? Might be able to go outside of just your email to get some further information.

EDIT: Do you remember any specific identifying marks on it?

Re: Help me find my sold tele - REWARD $$

I have my pic of the guitar so there are a couple of wear marks that would be able to be used to identify it. Not sure how I was paid. I checked my email for PayPal receipts and nothing around that time but PayPal was a bit new back then. In my online PayPal accoutnit only lets me see activity for the past year or so, I might be able to email them for statements further back.

I was able to contact user dontbesojumpy but unfortunately it looks like it wasn’t him as his guitar has arosewood fretboard and is missing some of the wear I mentioned above. I’m still waiting to hear back from harmony central to see if I can get into my old account.

Try cross-posting this on other sites as well for an increased chance of someone who has your guitar stumbling upon it.

Update #3

I found the name of the buyer! I was able to contact paypal and using the amount received and date I found who bought it and the address I sent it to (A university music department). I have emailed him. If he doesn't respond today I will post the name/address and my offer still stands of $100 reward for whoever can get me into contact with the guitar's current owner!

Congrats!

I would not post personal information though. I'll let the mods weigh in but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I definitely would be very unhappy if anybody posted my personal info on a public forum.

Re: Help me find my sold tele - REWARD $$

Yeah that's why I didn't just post it, I was thinking about that. The address is a public university music department address so it's not his home. I don't think he's there anymore though. The only thing I would be posting is name and email. But I don't want to break any rules or wrong him but putting his info online.

If he was a student at the time his university email probably is no longer active so there's a good chance he never got your message. You might be able to get a message to him through the alumni association. Or, if he was faculty, through the university administration.

Re: Help me find my sold tele - REWARD $$

Google his name with quotes around it followed by “guitar” or maybe “guitar e-mail” (without quotes)

Or google his name with the name (in quotes) of his school next to it (no quotes)
