Help me get away from the TS-9 sound.

Re: Help me get away from the TS-9 sound.

Basicly I could give you a mod that can sweep the tone all over the place;)
And it is still acting on the amp it is used on.
Most overdrives uses the same basic layout, it is what is used that matters, and the Plexi also uses diodes, an op-amp, a simple tonecircuit, and is buffered, but it sure does not sound like a TS-9;)

Re: Help me get away from the TS-9 sound.

For transparant tone, OCD or Keeley modded BD. Not so transparant, Spina SD1 or DS1 but sound great.

Re: Help me get away from the TS-9 sound.

Greg,

The DS-1 and DS-2 are similar...the DS-2 has the Turbo mode than the DS-1 doesn't have but for the most part they are very similar or maybe even the same...I have a DS-1 that Mr Spina modded...you're welcome to borrow it...hit me up on the phone and we'll talk.

+1 As far as I know, they use nearly the same circuit and sound almost the same. The BD-2 is a great pedal for making a solid state amp sound like a tube amp, or for boosting a tube amp into heavier overdrive . . .

Re: Help me get away from the TS-9 sound.

Thanks John! I try to be a cool guy like you and like a lot of others here...this place is full of cool folks and I like to try and keep it that way. Plus, Greg is close and I figured he could try my Spina DS-1 since he was happy with a stock DS-2 I knew the modded DS-1 would knock him over...I think it did.

Lew...I keep trying to tell Greg to send his Lux to Bruce for some mods but he isstill waiting:smack:

Dudes I'm telling ya... It's not that I don't want to at all!! I am extremely excited about sending the Lux to Bruce. I am just waiting to get past the hurt a few big payments I have had to make!! The amp and guitar cash stash doesn't exist right now unless I move a couple of peices. In time boys, in time!!

Re: Help me get away from the TS-9 sound.

The DS-1 is such a fun pedal to mod. The sound can change drastically with just a few swaps. I still need to tweak mine a little. There's just a tad too much bass.

who makes the plexitone?

Carl Martin. The fella who posts as Rid on this forum is the wizard who invented this awe inspiring pedal.

agreed..hellatious pedal, but I never could get a 2203-ish tone on the higher gain channel with mine...otherwise I would have kept it! :D To me it just sounded like an added gain stage in a Plexi....more EVH brown sound than raunchy like a JMP/800 2203. GREAT sound...just wasn't what I needed for most of my playing. Rid has actually said he can mod them to a more JMP/800type tone, IIRC.

What years were the 2203? Were they the 50 watt heads? I had an 81 or 82 JCM800 50w and through my Univox U1246B 50w head and 4X12 Celestion cab it nails, just nails the sound of my old amp. However, through my Bassman it sounds different--still JCM800 like--but just freaking killer, especially when I use it in stereo with my Vox Valvetronix.

With the way most Marshall amps have their own sound anyway, maybe he nailed what I determined to be the JCM 800 sound which is different from your interpretation. Ok--I'm getting too deep, gotta stop listening to Pink Floyd for awhile, lol. :smokin:
