Help a tube noob out :laugh2:

What type of tube is the one to the right?

The left one is a original Marshall ecc83 but what is the right one that is slightly different shaped and the inside isn't the same.

The ecc83 was in the tremolo position of my amp the unidentified in the preamp. Can I switch these two around?

Re: Help me identify this tube!

They're both the same thing - ECC83, 12AX7 call it what you will, but you're right - the guts don't always look the same.

+1

The internal makeup has a tonal effect, but can differ quite a bit within the same type of tube /Ie JJs are different form Teslas are Different from Sovteks are...) ... that´s one of the main reasons that we spend forever trying to find the perfect set ;)

Short version: The tubes you have are interchangeable, but will likely sound different.

Re: Help me identify this tube!

More specifically, the unmarked one is a Yugoslavian EI, and the Marshall-branded one is Chinese.

Re: Help me identify this tube!

Ooh! The tremolo buzz went almost completely away when I interchanged the Marshall one to the preamp and the no brand (EI like Admiral said) to the tremolo.

Fantastic! THat buzz has really been bugging me lately :bigthumb:

Thanks guys.

Re: Help me identify this tube!

EIs sound great but they are almost all microphonic/noisy, or will become such pretty quickly. In a tremolo application that doesn't matter.
