Help me make my studio.

I was hoping you all could help me figure out what else I need for my little home studio. I’m hoping to record some acoustic stuff and some harder rock things.

Here’s what I have: Cakewalk guitar tracks, amplitube 3, fruity loops, Miroslav Philarmonik Sound

I think need an audio interface, midi keyboard, condenser mic, and a compressor.

Can anyone recommend which ones I need? Is there anything I’m not thinking about? Is there something out there that will do it all? For example, I’ve been reading about the Roland vs-20 which would let me do a lot.

Any thought would help me a bunch. Thanks!

RP 350 by Digitech

amp/cabinet models
any effect you would want

if you go up to the GNX ( they are discontinued may be able to find one on ebay )
they have mike and drum machine in/out in 1/4 and XLR

I use the GNX 3000 my self

you may have something totally different in mind
if so then please excuse me

All I can say is: no junk.

You aren't doing yourself a favor buying anything Behringer or the like. Buy quality things that are old, breaten up and might come from eyebrow raising ebay sellers (if you do that often enough it pays off unless your luck distribution sucks). I have a Behringer 248somethingorother and a Tascam M216. The former I bought new 10 years ago and always babied, always covered under a sheet, and never used live. The latter I bought as the cheapest piece of ebay from somewhere in the bible belt, it was 20+ years old and covered in a thick layer of 19+ years old beer. In the Behringer pretty much nothing works anymore and the Tascam acts if nothing happened.

For compressor, get a dbx or something similar.

For a keyboard, get something with that old frame design that first was in the original DX7 and is used all the way up to the decent Korg models, e.g. most Tritons and the like. It is much better for playing than the wobbly junk.

For audio interfaces I generally recommend going Firewire, although that's a bit inconsequential since I use a PCI soundcard. USB can be a lot of trouble.

Re: Help me make my studio.

There are so many choices so I'll just give you an entry level idea. You could get the Line6 Keyboard POD Studio KB37 http://line6.com/podstudiokb37/ an SM57 the recording/sequencer of choice and some powered monitors. I could make a good sounding recording with that set up and have with a Toneport, SM57, and Logic. The mic pres in the POD Studios are quite good for software and emulate Neve, API and other top gear.
