Help me normalize the wiring on my Baja tele

Hi there

i want to bring back my baja tele being what a real tele is, a workhorse. So no fancy switches, no s1 switches, no out of phase things e.t.c

So i dropped a 3way tele switch, but my problem is what to do with the current volume pot which has incorporated the s1 switch which is used for the "complicated" baja wiring:

So my question is what should i eliminate from that wiring, conserving the current volume pot, in order to bring her back to what a real tele is: pos1 bridge, pos.2 bridge+neck, pos.3 neck alone.

Re: Help me normalize the wiring on my Baja tele

Yes. Eliminate the S1 switch from the wiring. Use a standard Tele wiring.
I would recommend . . . replace the S1/Volume pot with a standard 250k volume pot. It will make things more clear, and you can sell that S1 switch in the Trading Post.

+1

In some territories, Tele-style S-1 switch pot/knob outfits are difficult to obtain. You should more than cover the expense of your mods by selling the S-1.

Re: Help me normalize the wiring on my Baja tele

I m resurrecting this thread since i ve started work on the "normalisation process"o f my baja. So my problem relies on this:

According to fenders baja wiring ( http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/telecaster/014-1502A_SISD.pdf ) there are 2 wires than i dont know what to do with. I am refering to the yellow and black wires from neck pickup. Am i correct if i consider the yellow wire from the neck pick as hot and thus it should be the one that should go to the pickup switch and the black to ground or is it vice versa?

This is the diagramm i intend to go to : http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=standard_tele

You're asking for help to complete an exercise in useless tinkering. A Baja can do everything that you will get by rewiring the guitar to a standard Tele layout. If you don't want the extra features, just don't use them.

Seriously that was the most helpful response one could ever give. Someone has way too much free time.

I could not agree with this more! S1 in particular is a practically invisible system. If you want " normal" Tele controls and tone just don't push in the S1 switch!

Problem is i asked if you are knowledgeable. I didn't ask your opinion on my tele. And btw no one thought that the 4 pos. switch gives problems during fast pickup changes. But all that is history since i already found the response elsewhere. Thanks.:gurmpy:

Let me guess....the person you were spending lots of redundant money with was all for these changes??
