Re: Help Me Out Here...

A lot of people are going with the tortoise shell gaurd. I liked it on my 50's Tele; which was white blonde. On my Hwy 1, which is more honey blonde (yellow), I don't like it as much...so far...

Re: Help Me Out Here...

Okay, last bump...

Let's see if we can muster up a few more votes and comments...

Thanks everyone...

Re: Help Me Out Here...

I'd say 1, 2 or 3. 1 or 2 if you want a traditional Tele neck pup, with the choice depending on whether you want an early 50' or late 50's look. Number 3 if you want a Strat neck pup and an almost Esquire look. That's the one I'm voting for, because I don't have anything like it, and I don't much care for the tone or clutter of a middle pickup (not even on a Strat).

Re: Help Me Out Here...

Well, I ended up with the 2nd choice. I'm going to also try the Jerry Donahue wiring scheme if I can find a diagram of it. Thanks to all who voted. I appreciated it. Nelieve it or not, the real guitar looks a lot cooler than the Kisekae design....I'll post a pic when I can.

Re: Help Me Out Here...

Okay, I was at work talking about this subject to some other players. They asked me, like Benji_26 did, about the minihumbucker in the neck. I told them that I missed he tone of a Strat pickup in the neck. They were all over the Teles with minis that I had used in the past; saying that the look and tone was way too cool not to give it as a choice in this poll.

So, here it is; only mine is a minihumbucker from a Les Paul Deluxe, so it has the pole screws. Help me out here. I really appreciate all the feedback so far...

Re: Help Me Out Here...

Okay, one more...

I promise....

This one is the one I always go back to... It looks cool and it is very functional. I can't use the Classic Strat Stack in the middle though, because it's too low output. I have to raise it too high and it really gets in the way then...

Again, thanks all for the feedback...

Re: Help Me Out Here...

Well, I went to Church last Sunday and played with the Hwy 1 BS1 design (black guard with Strat pickup in the neck). It sounded great and was very clean to play.

I auditioned for a band last night and used the Hwy 1 MHNSM design. The minihumbucker is cool but I missed the Strat neck pickup's punch. The Strat pickup in the middle got in my way since I'm used to only two pickups. Besides, I didn't even use the 2 & 4 positions on the switch. I do have 4 preloaded pickguards that I can change as my mod, err I mean mood hits.

Re: Help Me Out Here...

maybe you should go with the traditional black guard look and put a strat pickup in there, that is what i am going to be doing with a tele of mine. i am putting an antiquity in the neck and i think i will keep the texas special for a little while in the bridge

Re: Help Me Out Here...

this thread has been helpful to me, thanks Butch. it is what really brought me to the realization that i would like to have a strat sound, but not two strats so one will be sold.

Re: Help Me Out Here...

The last one with two black pups instead. Black pick guards always seem to show scratches easier.

Re: Help Me Out Here...

The 5th one (tortoise and cream) is very sweet. I also really like the Tortoise and Black, too. I think it is very helpful to have the strat pickup in the middle.

Man, you're not kidding.... You ought to see my pickuguard that holds the mini and the Strat pickup. Scratched all to hades...

yeah they do but they look great on fender guitars. a blonde body and a black guard looks vintage to start with and add in a couple dings and a few scratches and it looks like it has been loved and played for years. by no means am i saying to age it, but i like the look of a guitar that shows it's age, especially a good tele.

Re: Help Me Out Here...

I agree, and the Highwy 1 guitars seem to want to age and relic themselves prematurely due to the fragile laquer. I have chips all over mine and I have a chip where my forearm sites and it has faded the finish...

Re: Help Me Out Here...

Well, I think I finally found it; the perfect blend of look, fit, feel, and function...

After changing and changing pickguards and pickup combinations, I took a look at what I really liked. I like the old blackguard Nocaster look with the light blonde color. I also like the look of a stock neck pickup. There's just something about that look of chrome on that black pickguard. Now, I have taken that old stock look and kind of one-uped it. I installed a black pickguard that's routed for a mini-humbucker in the neck positon. So, no, it's kind of like a souped-up stock Nocaster.
