Help Me Out With The Order Of My Pedals For My Pedalboard Please

Yeah, I know this has been done a bazillion times before, but I'm a tard that is pretty much a plug in and play kind of guy. I got a buzz also and I don't feel like searching.

So, this is kind of the order that I'm thinking from left to right, and then jumping back over to the top right....the way they are on the pedalboard.

I'll be going in to the volume to wah, to micro vibe, to phase, to flanger, to chorus, to overdrive, back up to the top right to overdrive, to distortion, to smartgate, to aby, and then into my amp or amps depending on if I'm running two amps at once.

Now of course I have no idea if that is the correct order, but here's a question. Should I run directly out of my volume pedal (first thing in the chain) into my tuner? It has an out to go directly into the tuner, or should I put my tuner right after the wah because it's a Boss pedal and has a built in buffer?

I think all of that is correct. Once again, I am a moron when it comes to this crap because I'm more of a player than an pedal guru or whatever...lol.

Now, yall tell me which way to go with this crap and I'll have my pedalboard finished today with the way I want it to look.

I would think you'll want you overdrive before any modulation. Other than that I'm not sure. Mine is A/B>Tuner>Overdrive>Reverb>amp. A/B is first because of 2 guitars.

Nopes leave the flanger and Vibe before any dirt, or it will sound like a modulating hive of angry gnats...aaaaggghh same with the phaser..
Anyways try out the pedals before doing any permanent, then it is just a matter of getting sounds you like!

That's what I figured as well. Should I do the same thing with the chorus as well? That's what I thought.

Re: Help Me Out With The Order Of My Pedals For My Pedalboard Please

About the modulations: Try them everywhere. There's no wrong or right.

I use dirt pedals, so I can throw my CE-2 in the loop, or in front/after the dirt pedals, or in front/before the dirt pedals.
I like it much better in front of the dirt pedals, first thing in my chain actually. It sounds darker.
But then I don't want the super glassy 80's chorus/verb/delay thing. If I wanted that I'd put it in the loop.

Not much help here I know, but I think you gotta try them because the difference is big.

No, they will be sitting to the right.

just trying to help; think about all the wiring going to those pedals as it becomes a bit of a hassle to set them up after you take them out of the pedalboard bag/suitcase, and your separate bag for the volume and wah. that is you connecting at least 5 wires each time. also, more chance the wires will fall out of the pedals if you step hard or miss-step on a moving pedal not attached to the pedalboard. Is there a power source for the pedals? that might take up additional room on the pedalboard and mess up the order. Hendrix did wah before fuzz, so that may put the wah on the other side of the pedal depending on things. I like tuner first, so it gets pure signal for better tuning accuracy.

Re: Help Me Out With The Order Of My Pedals For My Pedalboard Please

i like volume->wah->vibe->phaser->flanger->overdrive->overdrive->chorus->gate->a/b/y

try that and see what ya think. the tuner id put as the first thing actually on the board so after the volume and wah since those will be floating but test it out there or at the end before the a/b/y to see if you notice a difference

Thanks fellas, I apreciate it!!

Re: Help Me Out With The Order Of My Pedals For My Pedalboard Please

Overdrive then distortion. Sell the rest. :D

Re: Help Me Out With The Order Of My Pedals For My Pedalboard Please

I concur w Jeremy's order. I use almost the same chain and had to add a buffer- even though some pedals have it - I know. It still made a noticeable difference. Also, some vol pedals w the "tuner out" aren't buffered correctly, and u lose signal using the output. I was frustrated as hell when I learned that one...

Re: Help Me Out With The Order Of My Pedals For My Pedalboard Please

I would do:

1) Tuner (if true bypass)
2) Smart gate (check whether it works better than after distortion)
3) Wah
4) Vibe (often works better before drives)
5) Overdrive 1 (usually the more compressed one)
6) Overderive 2 (usually the cleaner or opener and dynamic)
7) Distortion
--- optional place for the smart gate
8) Chorus
9) Phaser (check if it works better before overdrives, also)
10) Flanger
11) Volume
12) A/B box

You're going to spend some money on cabling. If you don't want to blow big bucks on George L's cable kits, buy several 3 packs of Planet Waves angled .5ft cables. They're good, solid, and cheap.....no work either.
To go from one end of a row, back to another row, you'll need at least one angled cable around 2ft.

Then, buy a Voodoo Lab PPII Plus.

Joe, I've actually got some good mogami 6 inch cables. I do however need to buy one to go from the bottom row back up to the top row.

Bravo! I LIKE it!!!!

As always, you ,ay dig phase/flange before dirt...but tastes vary. I like to stick with the classic lineups. I like this one.

Vibes I like ALWAYS before dirt. All vibe pedals I've tried work best (TO MY EARS) before dirt.
Flanger and Phaser, depends on the maker/model and the maker/model of drive pedals so, no short path there but, this is the natural order and I would first try it.

I'm missing a Delay just before the volume pedal.
And, I would consider the convenience of a quality buffer pedal at the beginning of the chain (Mad Professor Red Ruby Booster or Wampler Decibel+, by example).
