So I've joined the Air Force and leave in 3 months, and for the next 2 years I'll be living/playing in a dorm. I've been agonizing over what gear I want to take/leave behind, so I wanna' hear what you guys think.

Right now, I've got THE two guitars, two guitars that I'm happy with and fit my needs, my Fender Strat, and my Jackson. I have an amp I really like, my Peavey ValveKing, and I'm selling my 1982 Peavey Special. I've got a Digitech GNX1 which I love, and a Boss NS2, which I only use when I play out, like a show or band practice or something.

My Jackson was my anniversery gift, so I'm gonna' pack it up and leave it home, and take the Fender Strat with me. By the time I leave, the Strat will have a 59/JB, and I'm gonna' have a LP style toggle switch, with two coil tap switches, so I can have neck/neck-middle/bridge in humbucker or single, so my tonal pallette is covered.

My big issue is, I want to make the most of my time and space, and that's what I'm gonna' have the least of. I was gonna' take my GNX1 and Valveking with me, but lately I've been thinking of just taking a multieffects pedal and some good cans. So here it is:

GNX1 and Valveking 1x12

OR

GNX4 and headphones?

Re: Help me pick a dorm rig for the next 2 years

I'd personally grab some nice PC speakers or small monitors and bring that along. My planned dorm room rig will be an XT into monitors, granted something better doesn't come out before then.

That's one of the things I plan on getting when I get settled in, a nice laptop with some decent speakers/monitors.

I'm gonna say Roland Cube- Your call on 5/15/30 watts.

I just can't do phones all the time. Sometimes you just gotta have some volume. Or you want to jam with someone else. It's got 7 Models for all occasions, headphone outs (get them too!) and built in effects - enough to get by. It's cheap, It's small, it could run the GNX through the front or aux in, it's small, sounds great and will always be a good practiceamp if nothig else.

I strongly agree with the podxt route.. i have a guitarport and i lived off that for my first 3 years of playing. Play through it almost every day, and I still have no doubts of getting it either.
