Help me pick - forgive me

ok, Not the 1st time I am asking. But i got a bit more detail here hope this can garner more advice.Thansk to all who helped out previously, seriously considering those.

I got a Epiphone SG Special. Adler body, maple neck. So wood is pretty bright here. Play through Peavey (bandit 112 - very rarely cuz no chance, Rage 158 at home ) or marshall 15 watt(VS or MG - most of e time). All amps are miced into PA.
If it is any help, I have a Boss SD-2, crybaby, dd-3 and dan-o chorus.

I go from playing some U2 type delays, to some woman tone leads. Hard chuggy rhythm is also appreciated. Straight ahead rhythm playing under distortion also liked.

As i play in a band setting i would like to cut through during solos. not so much using the woman tone, but the faster stuff. probably using the bridge pickup.

Hope u can help me out. Seymour duncans preferred though I am totally open to suggestions.

Thanks guys. Information provided has always been useful.

I'd say that a 59 in the neck and a Custom in the bridge would do exactly what you want. :burnout:

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

59 neck and distortion bridge? Is that feasible also?

i have heard custom lacks mids. My tone already is lacking.

The Distortion would work as well, but it might be TOO aggressive for what you want.

The Custom is in no way lacking mids. I have one paired with an APH in my '81 Hamer Special (almost like an SG, but a bit thicker)and it roars when dirty and twangs when clean.

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

hmm.. to agreesive in which way? Too bright? does not match well with the 59? hmm. srry for the many questions.

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

well, the distortion can be bright in a guitar like yours... id go for something with an alnico 2... probably a custom custom.. nice thick mids. Dave kushner from velvet revolver uses one too, if that influences you. Id go for the 59 in the neck... those two would balance well.

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

Ya.. I was toying with that too. I was also considering a Invader for bridge and custom custom for neck.
Thanks for all these so far. :D

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

a custom custom might be too middy in the neck to get clear tones

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

thats a cool combo. the cc/aph combo might be more common but i like the pgn alot and itll match up fine with the cc

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

Ok. I think i got it almost there. Gonna follow Benjy. Custom bridge. PG neck. Will the PG be slightly hairy on lead overdriven tones?

Yes, it will. That's actualy why I like it. To get an idea of what the Pearly Gates can do in the neck, listen to "Cheap Sunglasses" by ZZ Top. It's big, fat, and greasy with plenty of cut. I like it so much, in fact that I have them in my LP and a bridge version in the neck of y Carvin paired with a CC at the bridge.

Re: Help me pick - forgive me

Wads the difference between a bridge and neck humbucker of the same model, specifically PG? i heard bridge is hotter and warmer?
