Help me pick out an acoustic.

Hey, I want to get an acoustic because I don't have one, it needs to be electric as well, I want it to have a nice balanced tone, not bright at not too boomy and overly dark, I have like $700 but I really don't wanna spend all of it. I'm gonna try before I buy but I need some opinions on what to try and whats the best. Thanks doods

i have a seagull M series guitar and for the price you pay you get a pretty nice guitar. I payed about 700. there's probably a seagull guitar thats cheaper then that though and with a pickup in it. do a search for them on google and you'll be able to find the website and check out more about them.

Seagull's are very nice instruments. Here's a picture I took last month of Seymour in the Seagull factory in La Patrie Quebec. On the right is Robert Godin, the owner of the company, and on the left is Daniel Chervais, the head of quality control.

We were very impressed by the quality that goes into each Seagull. Seymour was lusting after their small body "OO." My son has an S-6. It's a really nice guitar -- not just for the money, but a nice guitar period.

Look at Norman guitars, also by Godin. If I ever bought an accoustic it would be a Norman B-20 with a satin finish. I can get them for $420 Canadian. I'm sure there are more expensive models by Norman as well.

seagull does make good stuff...but it does have a different neck than most acoustics...very thick...might be a plus for you...might not....for $700 i would also play some Takamines, Ovations, and Alavarez...Great bang for your buck!!!

If you're going to play it onstage I'd look for a used Takamine. I'd look for used anyway...your money will go ALOT further. Lew

Right now I'm lusting for a 00 style Alvarez that's at a local shop. Solid spruce top, solid rosewood sides and back, ebony fingerboard and bridge. It's going for $800 because an employee nicked the top of the headstock.

I can believe the top is solid. The sides and back? Maybe...but maybe not. Find a very distinctive grain pattern on the back of the guitar and look inside to see if it continues inside. Regardless, I've played some beautiful sounding older Alvarez guitars. Still, if you're going to play it onstage the Takamine pickup system is pretty cool! That's why everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Garth Brooks uses them. Lew

It is solid. I've checked it out. (I've been looking at it for about a year now ). BTW, this guitar was selling for close to $1500 befor it had it's little "accident". :burnout:


BTW, Takaminies do rip. The best Acoustic Electric tone I've heard (using piezos) was my guitar instructor's Takaminies through a SWR California Blonde.

I'd also recommend checking out a Garrison guitar. All solid wood, great sound. They're made around some sort of polycarbonite frame that makes them a little heavier, but they still resonate quite well.

I have a Seagull S6 Burst with LRBaggs elec. change the LG string to Midium guage, good sound! the neck never bend.

I have a martin d-15. they were around 5-600. pretty good band for the buck.
