Help me understand guitar wood tone

Yeah, opening up that DD and trying different Alninos seems like a good path here. I would expect A2 to come out well.

My favorite tone from a DD is with an A8...less "fizz and brittleness" on the top, more warmth, smoother bass but still strong and fairly tight.

As was suggested, one of the Custom line might be a better fit. I'd personally start with the C5, but the Custom with an A8 is also a great sound. Some like the CC (with an A2) for its warmth and smoothness, but I find it only sounds good in a very bright sounding guitar.

I’m thinking I just want to pull the DD set out all together and go with a different set. The main reason why I even put the DD set in was I already had them and I wanted to see if they would help / work in this guitar.

What about the Invader set? Do you think they’ll help with a thin sounding guitar???

The Breed p/u is discontinued but there is still some out there I see. What neck p/u would would match the bridge???

What about the dimarzio super 3, the tone zone or the air zone? The eq on These seem to look like what this guitar needs but don’t know anything about dimarzios

I really just want this guitar for the higher gain chugga chugga type stuff and stuff like motley crue. I don't do the whole solo noodling type stuff. Do you think the Invaders will do that in this thin sounding guitar

Yes, they will.

But I am not aware of anybody who kept an Invader in a main guitar on this forum. Acquired taste. On the bright side, it is cheap used :)

Anyone know about the dimarzios tone zone, air zone and the super 3???? If so how the invader compare to them???

Best match for The Breed bridge is The Breed neck. There were still some new ones available last time I checked.
For a bright-voiced guitar, the AT-1 is a very good choice too. Big lows and plenty of mids, and its feel isn't overly tight.

Tone Zone might be a decent option here. It's got pretty big lows too, but is more balanced than the Breed or AT-1.
Air Zone is fairly similar voicing but a bit less aggressive - softer in the attack and not quite as loud.
Either of those should do well with an Air Norton at the neck.

Super 3 is sorta like an extra beefy Super Distortion with less treble and a ton of mids.
They're quite fat and I always felt this one was best suited to a fairly scooped guitar.
Still, it could be a great match for an unusually bright instrument.

I have two PRS Dragon One bridges with fairly similar specs to the Super 3 - crazy high DCR and ceramic mag.
Marvelous lead tone but they don't clean up as well as I like, and huge mids make them picky about which guitars they like.
On the plus side, they have an unusual natural bounciness for ceramic, not stiff like most.
I never tried one in a really bright axe; maybe that's the ticket...

I've never taken an Invader out of a guitar before. Great pickup but it does not bring any treble-cut to a guitar that has no treble-cut.
Also the Invader is another pickup that people usually have set too close to the strings due to those huge caps. Make sure you are getting clear notes across all strings, without any warbling-tones when playing at the very highest frets (22nd/24th).

I think for what you are wanting the regular Super Distortion is it. I actually find the Invader to be like a SuperD with a wilder top and bottom, but I find their fat mids to be very close between the two.

Super Distortion could be another great choice here, maybe with a 250K pot to reduce some scream but leave the roar.
Also, the Super D is very democratic - treats every guitar pretty much equally.
All axes seem to love it, and it always sounds like itself.

eclecticsynergy Thank you. First thing I’m going to do is give the emty blackouts a try since I already have them. I don’t expect them to sound all that good for this particular guitar but who knows. In the mean time I’m going to try and sift through a bunch of reviews of the super 3, tone zone, air zone, Steve special and the super d. Then there is the whole black out preamp thing to check out. I’m curious how a 59 set with like a a4 mag in the neck and rc a5 in the bridge would sound with the blackout preamp
