Right at the moment i have A Vox AD15VT and am looking for a new amp I want a valve amp but I wanna be able to have it at a low volume (as in bedroom) but still be able to get a good tone (is it true that valve amps work better turned right up) I know there is a function on th AD30VT where you can have the master volume on full but on the back of the amp there is a dial to lower the power of the amp. If that makes any sense to you

What are the marshall avt like i was looking at them today. My original plan was to get the 30 or 50 watt vox. but would rather not get a modelling amp I want an all valve amp

Re: help me with amp choice

Im now looking into the Marshall AVT 20 watt amp is this an amp you would recommend. Also i will not be gigging with this amp its just for bedroom use. so i dont really need a higher wattage than 20-30 . Ive just heard these amps are on par with the MG range so im staying clear any other reccomendations for a low watt all tube amp that sound decent

The Koch Studiotone.
Preamps with a Cab Emulator like a Microcab. Engl has a 530 preamp that may do what you want here as well. It will run 3 watts for powering a cab as well. Run to the board for live. One of the newer tube recording amps to a small PA may work for you as well. Something like a Womanizer or Demonizer.

The smaller Marshall AVT amps have got nothing on the Vox Valvetronix Ad30 or AD50. They are a lot less versatile and don't sound any more realistic than the Vox. The AVT series is no more a "real tube" amp than is the Vox, they are both just using a preamp tube. I'd take the vox even if it cost more than the marshall, which it don't.

Re: help me with amp choice

My guitar teacher was saying i should get something like the line 6 pod pro run it through a mixing desk and then through a Hi Fi so i might be doing this instead of getting a new amp

Re: help me with amp choice

Why the POD Pro? The POD 2.0 is relatively inexpensive, and the POD xt a bit more. The POD xt Live is in a floorboard unit.
