I just had a new (to me) strat (surf green '60 closet classic) and I want to try this combo :
Surfer neck
RWRP Surfer middle
Twang Banger bridge

but when I play it the tone is horrible with the low E (sounds like I have a tremolo pedal running !) and the 4th position (neck and middle PUs) sounds very week ! just like out of phase humbuckers !
never had this kind of problem.
I checked the wiring but didn't find anything. Can it be a PU problem ?

If anyone can help

Thanks

Try reversing the leads on the Twangbanger. The surfers are are wound opposite of standard Duncan single coils.

Re: help me with my surfer / twang banger combo !!!

thanks Wymore !

I reduced the problem by reversing black and white wires on the neck PU , now all the position sound good .

But I have many microphonics with the neck PU !!!

Bridge and middle are ok even with high volume but the neck is impossible to play !!!

I think it's a grounding problem but I'm not an expert !

Re: help me with my surfer / twang banger combo !!!

Microphonic problem with a single coil, especially an Antiquity is a new one on me. You could be picking up some interference. Is the guitar sheilded? After checking all of your leads and grounding again, and assuming it's right (did you use one of the schematics on the main SD page?), I would try shielding the guitar.

The eaisest way I've found is to buy a pickguard shield from www.callahamguitars.com . It's under strat parts, and I've put one on every strat I've ever owned...and it does an aswome job. I have no noise from any of my singles...it's almost like they're stacks. Yes, it's $20 bucks, but it's the best money I spend on a strat. A lot of folks say save the $20 and use aluminum foil, but I like this much better, and it's easier.

Hope this helps a little, and good luck.

Thanks Jeff, for your help

The strat is equiped with the aluminium shield already , it's a custom shop '60 so it's equiped with a similar shield as callaham's.
Yes, I agree with you about the efficiency of this plate but in this case I still have the problem.
BTW I checked and checked again welding and wiring but still the same squealing !
It's also new for me to face this kind of problem with a Duncan , I think I have a deffective PU .

BTW , thanks again Jeff

It sure sounds to me like something wrong with the pup. If you call SD customer service, I'm sure they will either help you send it in for repair, or replace it. Their customer service is so good.

Wish I could be of more help.
