help me with my tone!

alright i got a new amp not so long ago - a boogie nomad 100 to be exact.
i found some tones i liked but they aren't quite there

here are the channel settings. anything lead is probably ch 3 vintage, anything rythm, it's toss up: gain, ch2 vintage or slight breakup, ch1 pushed. also i'm unsure as to what style this sounds like since i don't listen to a wide variety of music. on occasion i would use the visual eq, sometimes not. visaul eq = even higher gain. bridge/mid with tone on 5, single coil strat affinity, recording out, no verb no effects. nothing infront of the amp
vis eq: 60 hz - mid. 240 hz - 3/4s to the top, 750 hz - topped out, 2200 - 3/4s to the top, 6600 - mid
master output = 7-ish
ch1, pushed: gain 2, volume 5, presence 8, treb 6, mid 5, bass 4
ch2, vintage: gain 5, volume 6, presence 6, treb 8, mid 6, bass 5
ch3, vintage: gain 5, volume 6, presence 8, treb 4, mid 8 or 9, bass 3

What kind of tones are you after? What do you want to hear out of that amp? What is it you like or don't like that you're hearing from the Nomad?

to be honest, its a little buzzy and fuzzy right now, with not much sustain. It may just be your recording quality

Not meaning to sound rude......but its not your equipment...its YOU! Just work on ya playing some more....tone will come

And dont worry, EVERYONE sounded like this at some point

Set your amp's controls according to the manual's suggested settings. And then crank up the volume -- Mesas sound crap at low levels, but godly when pushed.
This will get the amp in the ballpark of the sound you want; then it's up to your playing ability.

here in lies the problem, most of their settings have scooped mids. i'm going to be using this in concert relativiley soon and i hear scooped mids don't cut through the mix very well

no offense taken, although i wonder if it's just a lost cause i'm still nowhere near good for my experience after i've been playing for over 3 years

edit: maybe i just don't deserve the nomad, 'cause i hate kids who get really nice equipment but still suck.

might as well quit guitar

OK, now you're starting to sound like me

don't sweat it, you're 14. Honestly, from your recording, it sounds like either you've got subpar recording equipment (how do you record?) or you just need to turn up the volume... it doesn't really sound full, it sounds tinny and buzzy.

But like Larry said, in time you should even be able to make that tone work for you :laugh2: At times it might feel like you're not going anywhere with the guitar, if you get too frustrated put it down for a while, but remember to pick it back up again because you'll reallize you've learned more than you thought you have. Seems like you just need to work on smoothing things out, really getting a feel for how the notes ring out... PRACTICE!!!

If you get frustrated, go back to doing something you know how to do. Power chords, strumming, whatever. Just make sure you're enjoying it, keep a guitar in your hands as much as possible, listen to music, and it'll come to you.

It becomes easy eventually. And then you can tackle the next big thing :smack:

I'd mess around with the treble settings. I bet that's why it sounds kinda weak.

I tell you what...sometimes tones come out as weak when you pull the gain back...your clean gain could be up a bit more I think and give a little more push INTO the tubes...not to the point of overdriving...just to give it a little power from the guitar to get a little more meat into your tone. Everyone talks about shimmer, and sparkle when it comes to clean tone but at the heart of it all is having MEAT there to shine and sparkle! remember that a hotrod may sparkle on the outside but it ROARS on the inside

that and some woodshedding and you'll be tearing it up with the best of them. I constantly believe that I don't deserve my gear, but ya gotta just keep doing it. If you love it, do it. that's alll there is to it. We were all at your point and so will every guitar player after you..just gotta keep going

Don't quit bro. Mesa amps are notoriously hard to dial in. Try setting everything at 12 o'clock then season to taste. I also have to agree with the bro who said Mesa's need to be turned up some to sound good and Mesa's are LOUD for their wattage ratings.

i finally found a tone i like on channel one: pushed. gains up pretty high along with the mids and the treble and the presence. master and bass is pretty low. visual eq the higher-mids frequencies up at max and the lower freq. below the flat line
bridge p'up with the volume on about 6
oh yeah and the output's on 4-5
i can't really record mainly because the only thing i can is mic with a condenser mic then mic that and by the time that's done it's too harsh..... it was harsh to begin with but it sounded WAY cool. my bro wouldn't stop screaming at me to turn it down
