Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!
hey guys,i'm new here, and i want you to help me out a little...
i need a new metal,shred guitar,and i have a budget of about 900 dollars..
please give me your suggestions...
Hmm. Is it going to see more metal or more shred? If it was a shred guitar, my opinion get one with the Full Shred set, or a cheap one that you like that is cheap enough that you can buy the Full Shred set and install it. Things I would look for if it was me: a dual humbucker guitar, probably a Floyd Rose, and for solo / shred I'd try basswood body. Since I like maple necks, an Ibanez might be the ticket (even though I'm not an Ibanez fan).
The Schecter C-7 or C-1 Blackjack guitars are '59/JB, and the JB can do metal just fine. As for shred, while I can't comment on the pickups, those blackjacks seem cheap enough to afford to swap the Full Shred set into them, and I've played one. The neck is set and is nicely sculpted, a lot like a Showmaster, so that you can reach the high frets very easily.
A Fender Showmaster isn't Floyd Rose, but has locking tuners and a graphite nut: either you could swap allen head screws into it, or even the Full Shred set.
And, to be fair, Malmsteen uses a Fender Stratocaster for shred., The Lite Ash Stratocaster is a solid, affordable axe, but isn't Floyd Rose, and you may not like the pickups. However, I've played it under high gain for shred and tapping, and it seems to have great string clarity and can be decent under high gain, for what it's worth.
If this was all about metal, I'd just buy a guitar that comes with the JB, Custom, Full Shred, Invader, or Distortion in the bridge, and be done with it. Even a Dimebucker.
