ESP or Jackson or even Schecter. just check em out and see what you like better.

oops i almost forgot . my buddy kac just reminded me about Ibanez. i really dont know how that slipped my mind. im not a huge ibanez fan but they make some decent guitars in the price range you are looking.

Hmm. Is it going to see more metal or more shred? If it was a shred guitar, my opinion get one with the Full Shred set, or a cheap one that you like that is cheap enough that you can buy the Full Shred set and install it. Things I would look for if it was me: a dual humbucker guitar, probably a Floyd Rose, and for solo / shred I'd try basswood body. Since I like maple necks, an Ibanez might be the ticket (even though I'm not an Ibanez fan).

The Schecter C-7 or C-1 Blackjack guitars are '59/JB, and the JB can do metal just fine. As for shred, while I can't comment on the pickups, those blackjacks seem cheap enough to afford to swap the Full Shred set into them, and I've played one. The neck is set and is nicely sculpted, a lot like a Showmaster, so that you can reach the high frets very easily.

A Fender Showmaster isn't Floyd Rose, but has locking tuners and a graphite nut: either you could swap allen head screws into it, or even the Full Shred set.

And, to be fair, Malmsteen uses a Fender Stratocaster for shred., The Lite Ash Stratocaster is a solid, affordable axe, but isn't Floyd Rose, and you may not like the pickups. However, I've played it under high gain for shred and tapping, and it seems to have great string clarity and can be decent under high gain, for what it's worth.

If this was all about metal, I'd just buy a guitar that comes with the JB, Custom, Full Shred, Invader, or Distortion in the bridge, and be done with it. Even a Dimebucker.

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

I would suggest....

Ibanez RG550 (old one)
Ibanez SZ
Charvel Model series
Kramer Focus (old one)
Gibson SG (faster neck than you'd think, plenty of reach for the upper frets, and you'd look different :) )

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

For less than $900 you could buy a used G&L, Invader. The modern era Invaders are equipped with Floyd Rose tremolo's. The early version (1985-1991) have either Kahler, or G&L tremolos on them.

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

You might be able to find a used Jackson SL1 or SL2H for $900. Those are two sweet guitars, or maybe even a Ibanez JS1, if you're lucky. Ibanez has some nice guitars in that range with Floyd-ish trems. All of them have pretty thin necks and are pretty light. Swap the pickups out and you have a decent axe to shred on.

Schecters are pretty nice to depending what you pick up.

Me, I'd keep my eye out for a used SL1 or SL2H.

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

my buddy has one of those alexi laiho esp/ltd offset V's. that thing rips, if you like the body style

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

if a jb was good enough for jason becker, i cant see why it wouldnt for ya...imo depends on your taste...thin necks and double locking trems scream ibanez rg or s series...if coolness is necessary get a rhoads, neck thru...neck heavy axes and me dont get along so the sg is a no go. but if you can a soloist pretty much owns...maybe somthin hsh...schecter also is easy on your wallet and great axes. and a strat can do pretty much anything with the right pups

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

well,i already have a strat,so i dont want an another one..
if i find a used sl1 for 900$ it would be really great, because i already want one but i cant afford one...
i'm thinking about ibanez or a jackson sl3...what do u think?

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

I would go Ibanez before low end Jackson but have some patience and scour ebay for a month or so for a used SL1. I scored a SL2H from ebay a few years ago for $950.

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

I have an Ibanez RG 550 and 570 and they both are awesome! If I had the chops, they would be perfect shred beasts.. Charvel Model series are great too! Jacksons too.. Id love to have a new DK2M. Comes with a JB.. Also Kramers.. Many many choices..
You will have to narrow things down.. I assume you want a floating trem..
You want bolt on or neck through? Neck thru will limit your choices. New or used?

If you want a really thin neck, Ibanez has that. Basically, narrow down what you want and need, and the choice will get more clear..
I hope this didnt make things worse, I just figured I could throw a list of names at you, but that wouldnt help you find what you need..
Keep us posted and happy shopping!

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

depends on what ibanez model...some specs youd like? because really you can pretty much shred on anything...i dont know how i hadnt thought of it.............THE DEAN FROM HELL!!!! oh and welcome to the forum. just tell us what you would like in a guitar...

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

thnx guys...
the most important thing is that the guitar should have a very smooth neck, that plays really easily...HH or HSS pickups, and i really wont mind HSH.....good tuning stability..a floating bridge would be nice but if it was a really good guitar and didnt have one it's not a big issue...it's better if it a had 24 frets, and i really like fretboard binding..

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

whadya mean by smooth? do you mean the finish?...tuning stability=hardtail but thats just preference. do you change tuning a lot? i think all ibanez rgs are 24 fretters and most have binding...check the rg prestiges on their site see if you like one...edge trems beat jacksons anyday...and a good setup and nicely done frets make any guitar play nice. since youve got a strat why not try somthin different than a superstrat? anyways a soloist would be wicked...

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

There's an import Jackson called the SLSMG. It doesn't have a trem, but it's definitely one of the smoothest playing guitars I've ever encountered. It weighs pretty much nothing, too.

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

what do u mean by something other than a superstrat?..can u give some examples?...
i'm really liking the ibanez 2570,it seems really good, but i'm not sure i'm gonna like it's neck,i've tried a 1570 a looong time ago and i remember that i didnt really like it...can u give me ur opinions?

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

well then you wont like any rg neck imo...there are some fatter ones but theyre still uber thin. and i already gave you 2 examples, a jackson rhoads and a dean from hell. maybe used...or a kelly...just sayin

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

There's only one guitar truly fit for metal...

Mr. Horsepower!

Re: help me with picking a new guitar please!

Get an Ibanez destroyer!!! a friend of mine has a natural one, and the pickups are awesome for metal.
