Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

hey guys...... ive got around $1500 to spend on a guitar and an amp......considering i already have my strat and it sound real good.....im lookin to spend around a grand or even $1200 for my amp........ which leaves me about $500 to get another guitar, and i want to get a tele

so if i have about $500 for a telecaster, what do you suggest i look around for?......im definately going used as i want to find the best deal i can.

i like just classic tele sound, somethin real springy and twangy in the bridge, with some good solidness to the sound.......i dont know a whole lot about teles, but ill probably want a maple neck, but rosewood could work......

ive been lookin at those "50s Telecaster" , the ones that are about $600 new...... are those any good? they look nice, i definately like something thats more vintage than modern

im left handed ......however im seriously considering buying a right handed telecaster and flipping it upside down hendrix style  (and i have played my dads telecasters upside down many times, and i am ok with having no cutaway on the bottom)

just any suggestions at all would be much appreciated

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

i have two of the fifties teles and i think they are great guitars. they could use a pickup swap but that is about it. you can usually find a good one around somewhere. guitars center always has them. another one to look for is the muddy waters tele. i have heard real good things about that guitar too. good luck

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

yeah, ill definately end up changing out the bridge pickup for sure......

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

I posted this in another one where someone is looking for a tele. I may sell my discontinued schecter tele. Natural finish, Rio Grande tallboy neck and muy grande bridge, smokin pickups. I bought a parker guitar and may have to sell something. I'd sell for $350 shipped. just let me know if you'd be interested.

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

I think the Muddy Waters Fender Telecasters are right around your budget and they have a good classic tele sound.

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

yea i did see the muddy watters........it definately peeks my interest

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

if you need a better bridge try callaham, not quite as vintage looking as the fender, but 3 brass saddles and much better construction that any other bridge i have seen on a tele

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

well i definately want the vintage style tele bridge and all........... im actually kind of wanting to do the minihumbucker thing for the neck position in this telecaster i get...... does that require routing, or are certain telecasters routed underneath so that this can be done?.....

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

I'll make you a great deal: my like new MIM James Burton Tele, candy apple red, alder body, one piece maple neck and medium frets but no pickups for $350. Then I'll put whatever Tele pickups you want in it for whatever the price of the pickups are. No labor. These are great guitars!

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

wow lew......im definately considering that, do you have any pics? (im not sure i like candy apple red but id still consider it)

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

Oh, you like Candy Apple Red. You may not THINK that you like Candy Apple Red, but you like Candy Apple Red.

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

Made In Mexico Teles are about the best deal for the buck these days. You can always upgrade them to match your own personal specs.

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

check out the nashville teles

the texas pups have a nice output to them, and IMO they twang more than stock tele pups

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

im definately lookin at the 50s telecaster........ but im still wondering about the routing guys?...... im thinkin of perhaps putting a Phat Cat in the neck position after all...... i would definately need to the route the body for that wouldnt i?.....how much would i need to take out and how difficult would that be?

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

If you want a cheapish Tele that's already routed for a neck HB, look for a late 90s Tex-Mex Tele Special. I'm not sure what you'd do with a 5-way switch in a Phat Cat-Sc combo, but that's easy enough to swap out. I'd sell you mine, but it's Candy Apple Red...

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

If you like the laquer finish of the Hwy 1 and you want your tele to age rapidly, get a Hwy 1 used. It'll already start the aging and you'll still have enough left over for a set of duncans for it.

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

actually.......i think i definately want a vintage white color or something similar........cause i want to put a tortoise colored pickguard on it and i love that combination of colors......... i also am not sure about what pickups, i might just go with the standard tele pickup combo

Re: Help me with some Telecaster suggestions

The Tex-Mex came in Arctic White, which has a bit of yellow in it and looks quite nice with tortoise.
