Hi, hope you can help me identify this pickup. I've added a link so that I can show more photos; http://ajkguitars.blogspot.co.uk
This pickup came off the bridge of a Fender JV 1982 57 Stratocaster that also sported 2 X early 80s pre-date Seymour Duncan SSL-1s on the neck and middle. It reputedly belonged to a pro and I suspect he replaced a Fender vintage staggered grey bottom/cream top 1982 set.
The seller thought this was a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 but it differs from the SSL-1s, which have the opposite black and white wiring positions and a pronounced bevel on the poles, these poles look to me as if they are non-bevelled. (edit - the photos are showing a yellow hue on the lighter parts such as the eyelets and wiring, but the wiring is standard B&W waxed cloth wiring, it's not yellow).
The pickup poles are a South polarity.
I have taken resistance readings, which suggest issues with the pickup (I think it must have been damaged in transit). The readings have at times suggested a broken circuit, but when I have gently manipulated the copper shielding I have had readings of about 8.55K. I am not sure if this is a true reading or if it is being affected by the copper shielding as it seems high to me?
The coil looks like formvar, but I have not as yet taken the copper shielding off; it has either been done very well after purchase or (like the Klein 59 SRV) has come like that. I don’t know.
The poles have some residue on them, perhaps lacquer, and what looks like black pen/paint on them too?
I’m really stumped, hope you guys can help.
Thanks
