help needed: new 0.13 strings

Hi,

My name is Joey and I'm looking for new 0.13 strings, but I like to know what you guys find good strings and not so good strings.

It concerns the folowing brands and are all bronze:

1. Martin M150
2. Martin M1200 Marquis
3. Martin MSP3200 (SP)
4. Ernie Ball 2002 Earthwood
5. Ernie Ball 2554 Everlast coated
6. Elixir Nanoweb
7. Daddario EJ12
8. Daddario EXP12
9. Fender 70M

My other questions:

a) i heard that the Elixir sounds tinny

b) the Fender sounds to dark

thanks for replying.

Re: help needed: new 0.13 strings

I use Elixir Nanoweb coated strings on one of my acoustic guitars at the recommendation of the manufacturer. (I try not to mess with the string tension.) In my experience, the Martin SP strings sound brighter than Elixirs of the same nominal gauge.

It matters not one bit what other people think of a string brand or type is only applicable to them, playing their guitar(s) in their way. You have to test them yourself.

Re: help needed: new 0.13 strings

I have a somewhat smaller body guitar (grand auditorium).
Are the 0.13 strings a bit too heavy for the body? or should i stick to 0.12

Re: help needed: new 0.13 strings

As long as your guitar is set-up correctly, playing strings of that size shouldn't be an issue.

Re: help needed: new 0.13 strings

I narrowed it down to just 2 strings:

1. Daddario EJ12
2. Martin SP3200

Anyone tried both of them on the same guitar? Can you tell the difference?

Re: help needed: new 0.13 strings

Now you've got it narrowed to 2, I think its time you bought a set of each. About the most useless thing you can do is rely on others judgings of the relative merits of tone. Even with a civilised discussion you'll still need to try both to see how they relate to your fingers and ears - one man's crisp is another's shrill.
