Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

Good day players,

Been a long time since I needed help installing pickups but here goes,
I have a new Ibanez Genesis collection RG 550 and I’m wanting to put my new Dimebucker in the bridge, the stock Ibanez pup has the black going to the potentiometer and the red and white going to the Alpha 5 way switch,
So on the Dimebucker I know I have to solder and tape the red and white wires together , having to desolder the stock Ibanez bridge humbucker wires (red, white and black) where would I need to solder the Dimebuckers already solders together red and white wires and the remaining bare, green and black wires?
Please help, I already have to change the pick guard holes a little and enlarge the pick guards bridge spacing.
No one has helped from SD.com so here I am, thanks in advance for any help, I don’t want to wire it wrong and have to disassemble.

Re: Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

The stock Ibanez pickup shown with the green wire has the red, black and white wires, I haven’t desoldered it yet. I just need in detail where I solder my Duncan Dimebuckers wires in relation to where the stock Ibanez wires used to be once I know where to put the Dimebuckers wires

Re: Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

Google up and use Ibanez RG schematics directions for what to DEsolder, then use Seymour Duncan 5-way switch directions for attaching the Dime in its place

Pickguard enlargement, use a file or shave off very small bits with a sharp blade like a fresh boxcutter knife. Hole enlargement, get a self-tapping screw with same hole size and use that with a manual non-electric screwdriver...or a drill bit in a screwdriver or thandle, but again not in a power tool unless you're very confident

Re: Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

Thank you Sir!
I was going to drill a hole one size larger in the pick guard it’s only off about a 64th

I’m more into the wiring right now, very frustrating!!
When I desolder the stock pup I’m going to have two spaces on the switch (red and white from the stock pickup)
The first white wire on the switch is one from the stock pickup, would that be where the black (hot for the Dimebucker? Go? And to the pot?
Thanks again!

Re: Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

Thank you for your reply,
With Ibanez having different color codes than SD I’m not sure what is what.
I just want to properly install this Dimebucker. Do Les Pauls and Strats are way easier!
I’m lost here.
Pulling the stock Ibanez pup consist of desoldering three wires, two of which are on the switch and one on the pot. I need to know where to solder the green, bare and black relative to the switch and pot on the RG with the Dimebucker.

Re: Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

What I need to know is after I desolder the stock Ibanez bridge pups wires where do I solder the Dimebuckers wires? Which wire to the pot and which one(s) to the switch?

I need to call Seymour I guess, lol

Re: Help needed with RG 550 Genesis.

Ibanez red is the positive, the white is the tap and the black is the ground.

SD black is positive, red/white is the tap, green is the ground

super easy.

just make note of what terminals the original wires go to, desolder, hook up new wires per above and that's it.

now, if they sound out of phase, you would have to swap the SD green and black wires.

black to where red was
red/white to white
green to black.

good luck

Hmmm. I just posted this in your other thread. And note what I said about pup polarity. ;)

Artie,
Duly noted Sir, thanks a million for taking the time to help me out. I’ll probably be banned soon for getting slick with the 1.000.000.000 post count Aceman. I’m going to follow your advise and hope for the best. Again, thanks!
