Help! No sound from acoustic when plugged in.

This has me a bit stumped at the moment.

My acoustic (an Ovation 1778T) has been working fine, through amplifiers, DI boxes and PA systems.

However right now, when I plug it in, I get a crackling/hissing noise with no response when I play. BUT, if I activate the tuner, all of sudden it works fine. The problem is, the tuner turns itself off after 30 seconds and the guitar cuts out again.

I'm plugging in through a standard instrument cable, I've tried straight in to 3 amps, a PA and a USB soundcard, all the same problem. I've also tried three different brand new batteries.

Can anyone shed some light on the situation? I'm probably missing something obvious...

One of the leads from the pre-amp to the jack has worked itself loose. The tuner acts as a bypass when you activate it.

I'm assuming the electric portion is what's going out, and not that it's losing its acoustic properties? Cuz that'd be like, I dunno, time to eat a bullet
