Help wanted identifying pickup

Hi, I got a very nice Aria Pro II ES500VS from my uncle. It has been modified and there are 2 pick-up's in that I like to identify. One is labled with only made by dimarzio, I mailded them for info. The other one has a sticker with Invader neck on itIMG_20190205_161322063.jpgIMG_20190205_164940616.jpgIMG_20190206_103501382.jpgIMG_20190206_104616231.jpgIMG_20190206_103950321.jpg

Re: Help wanted identifying pickup

Thank you for you help. It looks like it has been assembled arround 1980, but that information is not complete

Re: Help wanted identifying pickup

Pickups modded past the point of recognition, try an ohm reading and you might find out what it started life out as (probably something with two rows of hex poles)

Cool guitar

What does the additional knob do? Curiously enough that part seems stock

Re: Help wanted identifying pickup

Early DiMarzio Super Distortion and Duncan Invader with aftermarket hex heads.

Re: Help wanted identifying pickup

The black one appears to be an original "Invader Neck" from its first year of introduction (~1981). The large pole pieces on that one are correct for that time, which most aren't aware of due to being changed to the current style shortly after. Super cool!

The second one, as Ayrton said, looks like an early DiMarzio Super Distortion that has had its stock pole pieces replaced with bolts to look more like the Invader.

Seriously, that Invader is original spec???

Were the coils and magnets the same as today in that early first-year version?

Re: Help wanted identifying pickup

Yup...same specs, but first year had those big, honkin' black hex bolts!

I had scans from the original catalog somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.

Thank you so much. I am waiting for dimarzio, but I think you are correct that the bolts where replaced to make the look the same.

The extra dial is a tone regulator. I have to do some more research how it works. It is factory original, I think to make it look a little less than a Gibson

And your uncle just gave you this? Nice lil present indeed, they're starting to cost some serious dough on the used market
