Re: Help with DKFH2?

Ahh yes, I have DKFH2. You are lucky, I didnt have anyone to help me out. BUT, sevenstring.org has a great tutorial on getting this stuff up and running. You need Cubase or Nuendo though, thats the program the tutorial is on.

http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/sevenstring-org-workbench/24417-tech-how-program-drums.html

If you have any more Qs ill be glad to answer. There are a few more things to really get going on this, but its great to finally be able to program "real" drums.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Ok I got it all set up and working great. My problem now is I can't load the drum sets because I don't gave enough memory...and I have a gig of it. Ideas?

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Oh.. did you load the DFD (direct from disk) drivers? That maybe it. The version I ordered came with a strip of paper that said to go to the NI website www.native-instruments.com i think? and download the drivers for it. Then you need to click the DFD thing in the options when you load the vst. It should load it off the hard drive from then on, and you should be good. I only have a gig of ram also and it works fine.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Wonderful, up and running and got the hang of writing em. My next question is how do you mess with the sounds individually? And panning and all that jazz? This program is crazy complicated.

Also, if I do a lot of drum stuff at once in a place, it doesn't play the sound and comes in 2 beats later.

This is where the 'get what you pay for' line comes in. The vst program is a real piece of ****. hehe.. thats one reason why DFHS is so much better. It is actually designed for drums. This thing can be used with any sort of instrument. I know there is a way to mess with the individual toms and cymbals, but its extremely complicated and there are NO resources or manuals to understand it. The only way you can manual pan is by selecting the actual instrument, or group, and use the knobs to the far right. They are panned automatically, if you listen to the different cymbal and tom hits. I recommend loading the full metal kit and modifying the instruments, ie. levels and reverb if you want. That will give you the best sound the quickest. I can send you my presets if you like. If you want to do any covers, ill explain the best way for that too, or you may waste alot of time trying to program the drums manually.

My biggest problem was some things being too quiet and such. I found EZDrummer for another program to try, and it looks like I'll be looking for another version of DKFH.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Make sure you got the updates for dkfh2, otherwise things will be too quiet. There is a fix out for that.

Frankly, so far this seems to be the biggest pain in the ars ever. I shall look for something else. I'll have EZdrummer in a few and see how it works.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

why don't you read the instructions before just diving in? ever think that might help?

When you ask a question as rediculously broad as "how do I use it" you obviously have sunk zero time into learning it.

Didn't come with it....thanks for that nice advice. Cant find anything on google either other than the sevenstring forum already given me which helped me set it up and get going.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

I never record or better "write" drumtracks in just one midi track,!
I use the EZ drummer aswell and i use at least 4 midi tracks. That gives me enough possibility to pan and adjust
The left side dow below on the interface is the mixer.
The overhead volume and the Room volume are the most important knobs to deal with!Just use those faders wisely and you get he sound you want!

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Its not that much of a pita.. you just dont have any patience. Creating semi-realistic drum tracks with vst instruments is not like shooting fish in a barrel (ha, for lack of a better simile) it takes some time and experience. Plus, if you just abandon it, you wasted my time that was clearly given to you in this thread.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

A word of warning...

That tutorial on SS.org is cool, but ignore everything else you read in that thread. 99% of the people on that program are complete and utter morons, and talk straight out of their asses. (about recording, at least)

lawls there's a reason I got banned from there... twice.

I don't understand why you need seperate midi tracks to pan and adjust your drums? I program 100% of my drums in a single midi track, and use the vst channels in Cubase to mix it.

Oh and TBH, I wouldn't feel bad ditching DFH2, even if I gave you like three hours of advice on how to fine tune it. The program is a POS! DFH1 was better!

That, and "didn't come with a manual" = pirated.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Well I managed to write a whole song with DKFH2 and it was real interesting haha. I'll also do the same song with EXDrummer to see which suits me better.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Sorry for the off topic, but having had this bought to my attention I have to reply. I'm a mod at seventring.org.

Yes Jeff, there's many reasons we banned you. You had countless warnings and ignored them all. I also recall you asking us to delete your account (which we did feel them need to spend the time doing as you swore you'd never be back), yet you came back and continued causing problems. Your banning is your own fault.

We're not morons and most of us who chime in on technical questions have a very good understanding of what we're talking about.

Re: Help with DKFH2?

Did you seven string guys sign up just to reply to Jeff's post??? I find it laughable that you felt so compelled to have to reply to a 2 month old thread. Maybe you "mods" need to unplug for a while?

Re: Help with DKFH2?

LOL I don't even have to post on this - you guys are pathetic. Every time I've tried to explain exactly what went on, the threads have been nuked. Suffice to say that Chris has been spreading a lot of BS on the topic; maybe he feels he has to justify himself for some reason.
