help with gibson Gold Tone amp

Anyone here use a gibson Gold Tone amp - I just bought a GA-30RVS. I have played severl Gold Tones and really like them however I am not a big V30 guy which is the speaker that this amp has in it - Does anyone know how to change the speakers in this thing - it looks like you darn near have to take the amp completely apart...:smack:
Any help would be appreciated!

I've not looked at one in a while, but see if you can loosen the four screws that hold the baffle board (and speaker) to the cabinet. When you do this, lay the amp down on its face, grill cloth touching the carpet. Drop the four screws and lift the amp off the baffleboard/speaker.

That's the way I used to change the speaker on my DRRI. It's got too many parts hanging down to effectively get to the speaker. Furthermore I was always worried about tearing the speaker surround on one of the posts while trying to contort my way past all the trannies and tubes.

I love Gibson Goldtones, and watched a couple auctions last week, but held myself back. Don't knock the Vintage 30. It didn't become the industry standard by sucking. I've yanked out speakers to put a Vin 30 in, and almost always it was an improvement.

I have a Goldtone 15RV. Like you I don't care for the speaker, but after fiddling around a little bit I came to the conclusion that I'd pretty much have to take the whole amp apart to change the speaker. My solution was to just run it thru a 2x12 cab I have since it disengages the V30 when hooked up to an external cab.

Scott, the only difficulty with your suggestion is that the vinyl covering around the amp does not have a continuous seam - so to lift the amp off the speaker baffle I would have to cut the covering or unglue it and than try to reapply it, but I appreciate the input - I did look to see if I wanted to take that on.
Gearjonser - true enough, I know a lot of people love the V30, just not my thing - to harsh and hard to tame for my taste.
Shnook - I hear you, I have actually played mine through a 2x12 and thats what really sold me on changing the speakers in the cab - you're right it sounds so much better. We play a lot of small clubs so I'd like to have the freedom to bring the amp with out an additional cab to some of these gigs.
All in all I have talked to an amp tech who is going to look at it Tuesday for me and hopefully be able to switch the speakers out for me without breaking the bank.
