Help with guitar details...

OK, so here’s the deal. I’m trying best I can to get any and all information about this fairly odd piece.

The back story: My father bought this in the early 1990’s directly from Seymour Duncan at Cowboy Star Guitars in Santa Barbara, Ca. What my father relayed to me from Mr. Duncan is that this was made for a convention in the 1970’s. I’m guessing it was made for a NAMM Show to show off the clear bobbin pickups. As the story goes, the T-bar truss rod wasn’t stiff enough and with the slight neck flex it separated the neck and fretboard before the show so it was scrapped. Ultimately Mr. Duncan brought it to Cowboy Star.

Through the course of my owning it, I have swapped hardware around and tried all manner of making it playable but the neck flex keeps it a wall hanger. I always kept the original clear bobbin pickups in it but even they have no identifying marks so I don’t even know what model they are.

So, short story long, Mr. Duncan are you ever on the forum and can you give me ANY other back story to this thing? I enjoy displaying it and answering questions from other players but I would really like to stop coming off like I’m making this all up.

There’s my first post. On to the pictures:

That's friggin' AWESOME! I mean it sucks that it's not playable n all but its history is super cool. I hope you get all the info you want about it. If you do, please share with us. :)

And welcome to the forum!

Very interesting piece indeed.

If polepieces are any indicator, the neck PU could be a fullshred. If the bridge has identical poles then the same there (I can´t make them out well enough). But it takes a lot more to make a pickup than a few screws.

Or the could of course be (god forbid) Di..... Di ... ... I still can`t say it, those thingies from the other coast ;)

LOL @ zerb!!

jnyjetta,
Welcome! VEry cool piece! Seymour doesnt frequent here, but his right and left hand men do and Im sure they can get this validated for you. Incidently, the clear pups are being used again on a sig model by Schecter..

That duck is HUGE. Thanks all for the responses. I'll try to put up some better pictures.

OK here are some more and better pics. Closeups on the pickups, control cavity and the neck crack. I know the guitar is rough and dirty but it really is a little treasure.
