help with humbucker identification 2 rows slotted screws

Hi, wondering if anyone could help. I have a humbucker with label on the underneath BJ. Now from the Seymour id page there is no pickup for BJ which leads me to think that it is an Invader Bridge or Full Shred (B), made by Maricella Juarez (J). The problem is the pickup has two rows of slotted screw heads. I cannot see any pickups made with 2 rows of slotted heads so does this mean the pickup is an Invader, but someone has changed out the screws?

Many thanks if anyone can shed any light on this.

have you measured the DC resistance with a multimeter?

There is a custom shop model called the AH-1, which was made for Allan Holdsworth. Has 12 screw polepieces like that. Based on the JB if I remember right.

But I don't know if it was around during the era your pickup is from (likely 1980s).

Is it me or do those screw heads look really big? Also it seems to be a long legged pickup

Re: help with humbucker identification 2 rows slotted screws

Cheers for the replies. The DC resistance measures about 13.70

The heads do look bigger in the photo than on the actual pickups. Legs are half an inch/13mm - is that standard?

At this moment im leaning towards it being a full shred with the poles replaced... The type of alloy in the screw looks more like a hardware store zinc screw than whats found on pickups

Tell me if im wrong but it looks like the screws dont go through the baseplate right?

Correct - they are pretty much level with the underside of the baseplate.

yeah 13.7k would put it in the ballpark of a Full Shred. Definitely not any of the JB family.

Re: help with humbucker identification 2 rows slotted screws

It doesn't match any stock Duncan p'up from that era, so my guess will be a double-row Custom, mounted on a modded baseplate.

What magnet, BTW?

I think in this instance, I think 'BJ', stands for 'bodge job'....

Occams razor says it isnt a custom... To be a custom someone would have to have swapped the baseplate and then screws are the wrong size so they would have had to thread the slug bobbin for screws and enlarged and re-tapped the screw bobbin.

Where as if it was a full shred it only has swapped screws... and the baseplate matches... much easier to believe the latter happened than the former.

Re: help with humbucker identification 2 rows slotted screws

Just realised I asked the same question 9 years ago! The pickup has sat in a kitchen drawer since then, even surviving a new kitchen. When originally bought the seller said it was a Full Shred so that seems to fit with what has been said here. What will putting it back to stock do to the sound? I'll get in touch with support to see if they can supply the proper screws. Thanks for your help on here.

Not sure how it sounds now... But i can say this ive tried random screws sourced from a hardware store before... Never had any that improved the sound was always a step in the wrong direction. Usually they made the pickup sound weaker and thinner. I think it would be worth while to try and source the correct hex heads for it.
