I tested it today with my multimeter and it's coming up as 18.86. Thats a little high isn't it? Please help !!!

Its about 13% different...wound a little hotter. Is the pickup working, or does it sound like you expect? Anything weird with the pickup's sound going on?

I think I remember that there is a cap in the Invader Bridge. This would throw off a measurement.

Mmm . . . I don't think so. A cap in parallel would only alter the reading for a few milliseconds. Then it would stabilize. A cap in series would show as an "open."

However, there are other factors. Besides the normal factory tolerance, there's also heat, and the quality of the meter. The higher the temp, the higher the reading. Also, it's not a bad idea to keep one or more precision resistors around that are in the pickup range. Say, a 5k and a 15k. It's only a few dollars and allows you to check you meter periodically.

Is this is a Trembucker version (i.e. TB-8, not SH-8)? If so, that's on the high end, but not necessarily out of spec.

Keep in mind that the DC resistance isn't everything and it can be affected by several things.

If it looks genuine and it's working (seems like it is), then I wouldn't worry too much about it :)

trembucker invaders are fairly rare since the huge pole pieces kinda negate the need for wider pole spacing. most people buy an invader to get a blistering hot pup, the one you have should suit that well

I googled it : it's a bass cut cap in the Invader neck.

Their was a whole line of them in different colors for the gates customs. Way rare compared to the sh-8, but not really rare at all.

I have not adjusted the height yet..well I have but its sitting weird. The southern coil is sitting higher than the northern coil but I think it's just from it sitting on the wires so I'm gonna have to take off all fricken 7 strings and check! I'm using amp sims, fortin nameless to be exact, and I still can't get the tone I want. I had dimarzio's crunch lab 7 in my bridge and replaced it with the invader because i couldn't get the right tone from that. I have a dimarzio illuminator in the neck btw. I'm using a focusrite scarlette 2i2 3rd gen and I went out and bought a di box because obviously these pickups are WAY TOO HOT for the interface lol and my interface does not have a pad button. So that being said if you or ANYONE ELSE knows what I could do to get that deathcore-y metal tone I would love you forever! As for now, I think i might desolder? the pickups and wire them in again. I'm using a cheap mf ibanez gio 7 string btw lol with just 1 tone and 1 volume. I switched the switch to a 3 way fender blade switch also! happy guitaring everybody!

Yes the pickup is working but I'm not getting the sound I would expect from it. But like I said in my reply, I'm running it through a di to scarlette 2i2 3rd gen to reaper to dsp forting nameless. Nothing really weird about the sound other than the tone isn't as heavy as I would think it should be. The southern coil is sitting higher than the northern one but i think thats just from it sitting on the wires funny.

I just found the article you're talking about. Pretty interesting and informative. https://darthphineas.com/2022/01/seymour-duncan-invader/

With the cap installed where they're showing it, there should be no DCR reading. I'd love to get one to play with.

What's also interesting, is this statement:

Right off the bat, the Invader is the same wind as the JB. Yep. The Invader, the Distortion, the Stag Mag, the Holdsworth. All the JB wind. Just different magnets and/or poles.

Thats pretty interesting. I have a ‚The Mag‘. Its just a double slug bobbin humbucker with 44awg wire and mags instead of slugs. Didn‘t know about the JB wind though.

is that true? i thought the jb wind is so distinctive that mag swaps dont change the character much, it still sounds like a jb?

Heaviness and deathcore-eyness is going to come from the amp. The pickup helps with it's high output but it's not going to automatically make your tone into a deathcore sound. What amp/amps/plugins are you using? 5150 is a good amp style to start with.

With high output pickups sometimes its good to lower the pickup height... helps it breathe a bit more and can be more clear and articulate.

I get where you're coming from, but the TB-8 is probably more common than you realize and it was worth asking since we only had a high DCR to go on. Of course, now we know it was a 7-string model, which is similarly uncommon
:)
