help with my bc rich super strat

i have recently aquired a mid 80's bc rich stlll. alder body maple neck rosewood fretboard bolt on 25.5 scale and a floyd rose. in other words you basic superstrat.
i currently have a duncan distortion in it. i love the distortion in my jackson neckthru. its nice and fat but also tight and cutting.

however in the bc rich it had a tone i describe as 'planky'. i think it may have something to do with the general snap of a bolt on mixed with the upper mids of the distortion.

so i am wanting something to smooth out that hard planky sound but still retain tightness. i play extreme metal tuned to c#.

right now my first thought is duncan custom.

any other recomendations? i dont care about brand. just let the suggestions fly.

Lots of these just had volume knobs without a tone knob is this one set up that way?

Re: help with my bc rich super strat

With a guitar like that im more inclined to go with a pickup that has a strong character on its own rather than one that lets the guitars own character through. For drop tuned metal like that I would be leaning twords like a DMZ crunch lab

I have a very similar guitar with a BKP Miracle Man in it. Does that sort of stuff very well as I gather.

Well I have a custom that will be coming out of my carvin when i get my l500xl. I will try that. The dimarzio crunch lab and super d intriques me. I have also gave thought to the dominion

Re: help with my bc rich super strat

Why don't you try the L500XL in it? Back in the 80's when I played metal, I had a BC Rich Warlock w/L-500XL in the bridge, & Schaller PAF in the neck. It did what it was designed for very well.
