Help with neck pu for Epi.....

Epi Lp with Floyd. Tried a A2P for a bit, then switched for a Paf Pro.
Bridge pu is a Custom Custom.
Looking for something with more output, snarl, grit .....with gain.
Been looking at the Jazz, Screamin Demon, Full Shred.
Mostly for rock.....( really love Tom Keifer's neck tone)
Suggestions??

Yes Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus.
Amp is 15W Laney Cub Head (2x6V6) with Greenback cab. Also have a 5150 100W head and Marshall 1965b cab.

Honestly, for the gain you say you seek, I'm more feeling DiMarzio.

Re: Help with neck pu for Epi.....

I use the '59 in the neck of my strat, and love it paired with a PG+. It gets that noodly kind of Dave murray thing oing on with the gain maxed but does clean and semi overdriven very nicely as well. If you already have something hot in the bridge then go with something a little more mellow in the neck. The '59 actually gets kind of a single coil like tone with the eq set right. One of the many things I love about it.

Hope that helps,

Al

Problem is that in LP's '59N's are often boomy/bassy. Common complaint here. Pickups sound very different in different guitar models because of the woods and designs.

My personal rule of thumb is: If a PU sounds great in a LP, it probably won't in a Strat, and vice versa.

It's a common statement from you. I don't know how often it REALLY occurs. No doubt there are boomy/muddy LP's that the 59 isn't good for. I bet there are TONS of guys with 59's in LP's that like them just fine. They just never show up here to complain like the local tone-tweekers. In fact, I suspect you often REPEAT it about 50 times for every once it was actually said.

Full agreement - even some of the most homogenizing pickups; EMG's, Distortions, etc…

I'll mostly agree with that.

PAF 36th Anniversary. Great, fat, almost P-90 like tone with lots of bite.

Re: Help with neck pu for Epi.....

Far from just me. It's the reason members put A4's in their '59N's.
I tried an A4 in my 59 neck and while it was ok, I find that I prefer the RCUOA5 that I just recently swapped in, much more. For some reason that magnet just seems to open up, without radically changing, the character of both the 59 and the JB.
