Help with new Fender Telecaster Japan

Hello folks, I've just got a used Fender Telecaster Japan for a very good price. I checked the Serial number and it's a 85/86 model. It plays very nice, I'm thinking about leave the stock pick ups because of the beautiful tone. The finish and the bridge are not in the best condition.. the bridge is a little oxidated, so anyone know what is better to do? Is there anything that can be done to restore the stock bridge or I'll have to look for another one? Also... it may be a little stupid, but I'ts my first Fender guitar, the headstock does not have the hole to adjust the neck as other guitars. Is this normal on this model? Thank you!

bridge=MOJO :smokin: who cares about rust. If it was 50 years old would you replace it? :laugh2:

(some people would say brass saddles. no matter how corroded or not it was)

truss rod adjustment is at the butt of the neck ;)

If you like the stock pickups then leave them

As for replacing the bridge because it's not all new and shiney...the new one will not be shiney in a few months...leave it too, I would put brass saddles on it but thats a taste thing...I like the tone of brass better than steel.

The truss rod adjustment is at the other end of the neck...you have to rmove the neck and use a screwdriver to adjust the rod...that it typical of all vintage and vintage style Fenders.

Nice score...that is a killer guitar, I have a mid 80's MIJ Strat that is amazing!

Thank you so much danglybanger! I saw other teles with that hole...so I was a little afraid of a fake neck or something.. because the guitar is a little worned out. By the way, it's a very good sounding guitar, and plays very nice, but we see many people having trouble with bad traders or having problems with fake guitars nowadays.. thanks again

Thank you guy who invented fire

I was looking for a good Fender for months, especially a Telecaster
.. I always played with humbuckers, so it's nice to get different tones. 'm a big Keith Richards fan, but the neck pick up sounds so fine that I will think twice before making a hole to fit a humbucker as Keith' s tele

nice guitar, i would leave the bridge too, it just looks cool. I am with GWIF, get a nice set of brass saddles and that baby will be complete.

Re: Help with new Fender Telecaster Japan

Yeah it looks cool, but it's cooler when you relic your own guitar! But.. on the other hand, i think it gives a "soul" to the axe..

+1 on changing to brass saddles. a compensated set will be nice.

I have to disagree, i really haven't fallen in love with the compensated set. I think it actually takes away from the traditional sound which is slightly out of tune, i can tell and it just doesn't work for me, but thats just my opinion.

Beautiful Tele. Do NOT change a thing on that baby. Wow, that is sweet. And I'm saying this after drooling over 1950's and 1960's Strats, Teles and Les Pauls at a guitar show where the prices of some would require a second mortgage. :laugh2:

i could not get used to that out of tune tele-ness... I play with higher gain settings and that out of tune business drove me nuts... i went as far as putting a modern bridge on mine.

The compensated saddles may of worked for me but i never did try them...

besides the saddles i'd say don't touch a thing as well.... I love the look of 50's teles and yours has that big time.. and the rustiness adds to the vintage vibe!

Re: Help with new Fender Telecaster Japan

Thank you all for the tips guys, i'll leave it stock, I was playing it for some hours and it really rocks.. especially for bluesy stuff and 70's rock n roll!

for the really high gain stuff i don't think the barrel saddles will work. I would have to have individual saddles and I think i would like steel or some sort of string savers for that kind of application.

that said I love the uncompensated saddles for bluesy stuff and chords
