Hey all
I'm trying something new and hitting a wall. Could use some help. pt 1 is which middle pup to choose and pt 2 is wtf am I doing wrong
Please bear with me.
I have an SSS strat that has been going through some growing pains. Some time ago, I replaced the original single-coils with a vintage Lil 59 and two 2 duckbuckers (also two-wire vintage). Eventually, one of the ducks failed, so I went to try something new.
I currently have a new JB Jr in the bridge, and I attempted to get a new Lil 59 for the neck, but was sent a Hot Rails instead. I can live with that (I think). But so far, I am having a hard time finding a perfect match for the middle pup. (all modern four-wire on classic setup - eg, no superswitch)
BUT WAIT - There's more!
Meanwhile I am trying to pull this off with one of those Emerson Blender Kits (5-way) which, as I understand it, without special switches (push/pull, etc), if you put a regular single coil in the middle, position 2 and 4 will no longer be noiseless.
I tried the Classic Stack and I couldn't seem to get that to work either.
Problem I keep running into is that position 3 works perfect (isolated). 2 and 4 work essentially as intended (blendable bridge and neck). But 1 and 5 should be able to isolate yet they won't. I turn the blender all the way opposite of full (not the direction you'd think) and I can still hear the opposite of the selected pup in the mix.
The founder of Emerson has been a real gent, calling me to try and sort this out, and we concluded the kit had something faulty, so he (for lack of available stock) pulled out the setup from HIS strat and sent it to me. Pretty huge if you ask me.
My first time with a blender setup, but nowhere near my first time installing all new electronics, repairs, etc.
Still, I am stuck
SO:
Which pup for middle with JB Jr and Hot Rails (I play fuzz/distortion heavy, think Black Sabbath, Melvins..) and any advice for this setup attempt with a blender pot on a strat?
tia
