help with removing pick scratches from my guitars finish please.

Re: help with removing pick scratches from my guitars finish please.

It's one thing to be upset about having scratches on your Gibson Historic or hand-built acoustic, but an ESP? Really?

my guitars mean as much to me as yours do to you..if i had a les paul i would treat it the same way........what?, just because my guitar cost less than a grand ,i should not take pride in its condition?.....for your info...i have had les pauls and they were treated like royalty...just like my esp...we dont play names ,we play guitars...and i take care of mine.

My guitars had better have pick scratches. A little honest wear does a guitar good; I don't have room in my life for case queens.

Raven your purple axe is divine

you should be proud of it

and keep it nice

I work hard for all that I have and should take better care of it

Don't use auto body "rubbing compound", it's too abrasive. It'll wear through your finish in no time. "Polishing compound" will do the trick.

+1. Be careful. I would go with something very mild, like StewMac's swirl remover.

then dont play it. play the fender.

i didnt put the scratches on it...i have learned to play just as loud and rockin with out scratching up my chit...i play both,....my fender is my go to axe,but the esp is a looker and its going to stay that way.

wow....smart-azz comments from a couple of posters, just because i want to keep my guitars in great cosmetic and great playing condition.and because its not a 5000 dollar guitar, its not worthy of care...some times this site is such a snobatorium.

Re: help with removing pick scratches from my guitars finish please.

Can you take a picture of the scratches and see how bad it is?

they are very shallow pick marks, that i am hoping will buff out...i will try to,but they are faint...i am a painter so i have an eye for detail..i can see them, i know they are there.

Re: help with removing pick scratches from my guitars finish please.

How your friend does uses the pick that he scratches the guitar body?

my guitars have some small scratches between the pickups under the 1st string because it's the place where I put my right hand fingers (the fingers I don't use).

Re: help with removing pick scratches from my guitars finish please.

What if the scratches don't come out? Does that change the way you feel about the guitar? Is love lost? Is it time to ditch it and get a new one?

Probably not, right? It doesn't mean a thing. It still plays and looks great no matter what right?

"made to be played"...

yes i am anal..about this..sorry if it has annoyed some of you...now back to your question..my camera is not picking up the scratches..they are only on the clear coat,so i am taking it to some one today to get buffed..the point of all of this is that i dont want this guitar to have the well played look....it is stunning...and i want the scratches gone because i didnt put them there.

they appear to be on the down stroke as he played..on the top of the body....and above the pick ups and around the top of the bridge.

You think I am anal ? I read somewhere that Sammy Hagar had one stolen, got it back and he lit it on fire at the Texas Jam because it had been touched by someone other than him.
