Help with some ideas.

Me and Hoss are going to start recording again and we need to buy an inexpensive desktop small mixer to plug into my computer. What mixer will give us the best bang for our buck? 4-6 channels, onboard fx is not needed but a pluss, non powerd. Any ideas?

Re: Help with some ideas.

Knowing full well that I will get flamed for this, but I have a Behringer UB1222FXPRO Mixer and I am very happy with it.

I actually have a smaller Behringer that I have used for many years in my recordings, but I wanted to start recording drums and needed a bigger board, and this does the trick. One of the features I like is the mute swtich for each channel, a seemingly simple feature for some reason not found on lower priced boards (handy for setting levels)

I have also used this board extensively for live performances all summer and it has held up extremely well - no problems at all.

Well, depending on what software you're running you will have a software mixer most likely. So I assume this is to be able to track 4 mics at once? If that is the case a mic pre audio interface like an M-Audio, Presonus, Mackie Onyx etc. would let you record 4 sources at once. To use an external mixer just to get sound into the box would not be my first choice because I think there is more bang for the buck in some other units.

yamaha mg 8/2FX or something more simple yamaha mg 10/2...really cool ,under 100 $ and reliable.
Yamaha is the best company in that field for price/performance IMO

You should be able to get this for under 400.00. You'll need a Firewire card or port in your computer cards are cheap though. That's just one option - I like the M-Audio stuff for the price performance ratio and I know a very heavy hitter producer that uses the M-Audio 410 on his laptop when he tracks on the go.
