Help With tabbing a song - not sur what key its in

Hi,

I'm trying to tab a song thats an old English punk song. however, i have the lead section in the intro sorted, but I'm having trouble with the chords. How can i find out what key its in?

The first note of the lead part is C, ad C kind of works with the first chord in the progression however, the song seems to be a bit out of tune (guitar wise) mainly because its an old jokey punk song so tuning isn't really an issue i suppose haha.

But how could i work out what key I'm working with

Chances are the tune isn't in A-440...could be slightly off. Those old recordings are notorious for that.

You could find the root(lowest) note of the chord they keep coming back to, and chances are that's the key, too.

Hi,

So what fool proof way is there to see what key the song is in?

When i know the key i can work out the chords easier and check whether the chords i think sound right are in the same key.
