help with wiring an input jack

Alright I'm on the last step in my super strat project. Just need to wire the jck and put the springs on the bridge, then she's ready to be strung up.

But i'm kinda confused. I'm looking at this diagram. The only thing is my input has three prongs. It was easy enough to identify the ground since it's on top, but I don't know which of mine of the hot. Does it matter? I was thinkin maybe I have a stereo jack and the diagram is just using a mono jack as an example.

By "Imput has three prongs" do you mean your Jack has 3 prongs... if so it is a stereo jack.... it's pretty easy to tell which soldering lugs to use.... just grab a guitar cable and plug it into the jack..... the contact that is touching the tip of the plug is the hot and the soldering lug for the inside ring that is touching the shaft is Ground of course... The 3rd you just leave....

it says the ground is the inner circular portion of the jack, that seems to contradict what you're telling me

No that is what i meant..... Ground Is the center ring of the jack and Hot is the tip contact

what kind of tape do you use to tape of the red and white wires? electrical tape doesn't want to stick

You must have an interesting guitar - because I've never heard of one that has an input jack.

No problem.... There is lots of bad Electrical tape out there! Cheap crap with no tac.... Buy a different roll

Also i've noticed sometimes Electrical tape will not stick to Pickup wires outer covering when they have wax from the potting left behind... but most of the time a different better roll of electrical tape does the job...
