Help with wiring dual concentric pots

I've been trying to wire up a dual concentric pot as a master tone/master volume using this wiring diagram:

The capacitor I have used is 0.022uF and the pots are both 500k log.

However, when I wired it up, the tone works in the opposite direction to the volume, and even with the tone fully open it's still very bassy and muffled as if the tone was rolled off most of the way.

Is the diagram wrong or is there just a problem with my soldering/wiring?

Re: Help with wiring dual concentric pots

I just ordered one of these, so I'm interested what's going on.

Re: Help with wiring dual concentric pots

Treat the concentric pot as two separate pots.

If you wire the concentric pot using it as two separate pots then everything should be working properly.

A concentric pot is just two pots in one. It is nothing fancy and requires no special wiring.

Use this:

I have a guitar with a master volume and a concentric pot for individual tone control of my humbuckers.

I wired everything according to the SD wiring diagram and it works like a charm.

Re: Help with wiring dual concentric pots

you could try moving the wire from the top middle to the bottom right instead of the bottom left (on your drawing)

500k audio taper would be better than 500k log taper

dunno if you heat damaged the pot(s) or cap when soldering or not - could be a culprit as well

good luck

Re: Help with wiring dual concentric pots

Ok my take on it, which is 50s wiring.

Red is the pickup

Yellow is the pickup-switch

Green is the capacitator, i suggest the left direction but if it still works backwards try the outer lugg of the lower pot.

Grey is the bround connections,

Hope it helps

Re: Help with wiring dual concentric pots

I've tried re-wiring this using the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram and treating the dual concentric as two separate pots.

The sound is now as expected, but both volume and tone now work in the opposite direction to the expected one. I guess I have to reverse something (hot and ground?) to get it to work the other way.

Anyway, at least my guitar is playable again, so I might give it a break and actually do some playing before I get the soldering gear out again.

Re: Help with wiring dual concentric pots

Here ia an actual picture of how I do it.

The pickup hot or the wire from switch goes to the upper center lug and the other open lug goes to the jack.
