Best eq settings ?

Re: Help

best setting for a Metal Zone is in the trash.

I guess, if you're dedicated to doing it, I haven't found a usable tone with the gain up past half. Roll the highs off as it'll get way harsh. I'd suggest bass and mid at half and treble at a quarter and use the mid swing to scoop or push your mids.

If you want to load up your gain channel on the Marshall, just drop everything to 0 and leave the mid swing at middle and test the waters tweaking the knobs a little bit.

For the record, you should sell that and get a Metal Muff or, if you're a lucky SOB, an HM2. The HM2 was placed on a gossamer cloud by God himself and slowly lowered from the firmament into the eager hands of some crusty Swedish guys who proceeded to try and buy all of them.

Re: Help

If you're talking about EQ settings on the Metal Zone, and you want to use it for rock/metal...

Turn the gain up to about 2 o'clock. Set the highs at 11 o'clock and the lows at about 1 o'clock. Set the midrange knob to 2 o'clock and adjust the mid frequency knob to taste.

See how that works out for you.

Re: Help

Your Marshall Valvestate already has better sounding gain than the Metal Zone.

Re: Help

true dat - while a metal zone can be ok, the VS's own gain & tone blows it away. I'd take it out of the equation.

Re: Help

Mesa.
I have no clue what sort of music you're into, so you might as well get the best at one thing and pretty friggin good at others. Dual Rec it.

Re: Help

Lookin to upgrAde my amp
Thought?
Mesa? Marshall ? Orange?
My budget is 3k
Thanks

$3k is a pretty big budget so you've got a lot of options.

What kind of music do you want to play with it?
Do you want a combo or a head and cab setup?
How loud do you want to be?
Are you planning on gigging with it?
How many channels? FX loops? Reverb?
Tube? Modeling?

Re: Help

yeah, 3k leaves you a pretty wide open playing field. need to let us know what styles you intend to play, what tones you like, you looking for combo or head/cab? Any special features? I have a Splawn Quickrod and love it. Decent clean, Awesome rock tones, even at decent volumes if you get a newer one with the loop, you can use the loop as a master volume.

Re: Help

Currently using marshall valvestate 275

Style: 80's thrash

Lookin to purchase my first half stack
Leaning towards a 50w head

Re: Help

Buy two used Carvin SX300s, two full stacks, a few wikked gainz pedals and then sort out your wardrobe with tight denim and safety pins for pegging them, some Reeboks, shirts with skulls on them and the like.

Or buy a half-stack of Mesa.

Or buy a Pitbull head.

Or buy another Valvestate. Those things are excellent for 80s thrash. Just get a bigger one.

Re: Help

If I had $3k sitting around for a half stack I'd get a good 4x12 then start abusing the hell out of Guitar Center's 30 day return policy until I found something I couldn't imagine life without.

There's no "best" in this game... It's just what works for you & what you enjoy playing.
