Help!

Hi, I'm new here. I recently picked up an Ibanez SZ320. It's got 2 duncan/ibanez humbuckers. They sound pretty good. The guitar itself is mahogany, and naturally produces way more midrange than I'm used to. Even unplugged it honks quite a bit. Of course I'm comparing it to my fender strats which are kinda bright. So here are my questions: I'm looking for a bridge pickup that will have fewer mids, and be brighter than stock. Would a '59 be the right choice? I dont really play metal, so I'm not looking for super output. On another note, sometimes the stock bridge pickup has a touch of audible distortion when I pick hard. I lowered it a bit, and that seemed to help but It's kinda still there. I'm assuming its just because the stock pickups arent the best. Plus...does anyone know what model the stock ibanez/duncans would be compred to? The bridge has slotted screws on the bottom row, and allen screws on the top row. Thanks for your help.

Re: Help!

Hey Filmz, welcome the forum.

I would look at the 59, C5, and even the Screamin Demon.

The 59 is Seymour's take on the first A5 PAFs. More of a scooped or neutral midrange. The low end can be boomy, and the high end can be tinny. In you position it might sound great though. It is availavle in regular, or tremspacing.

The C5 is going to be a juiced up 59, same EQ, and is also available as a TB. It's like someone left a pup on the winder a bit longer than normal.

The Screamin Demon is going to be in between the two aforementioned pups. Its going to have more high end and less low end than the other two, and have a more crunchy type of tone.

Hope that helps!

Re: Help!

welcome

i wonder if what you are calling 'midrange' is actually low-mids with that 'all mahogany' guitar ... in my all mahogany guitar, i have a JB in the bridge and it is really wonderful for a wide variety of tones (i don't play metal though) ... if you have a blade type pickup switch, i'd recommend you try an Alnico 2 Pro in the neck with a JB in the bridge and get a 5-way P-type megaswitch to replace the three way ... very versatile axe with that set up
good luck

Re: Help!

I think that the '59 could be a good choice. I find it open and bright... not too much mids or boxiness.
