Hendrix without noise?

I've got to ask .would the Experience be the the same without noise or hum?
How much Noise is noise?
I saw a rave where these guys are talking "vintage without the hum"
Please don't let tones ,just turn into notes.
Vintage sound is made with old technology,modern replications approximate the sounds .Old,New it's all good.
My point is ......oh oh! hang on......i don't have a point ...O yes thats right I wanted to say...... music is made of sounds and some of them are noisy! so keep it open/sweet/loud and humming!

Lots of feedback please!

I don't like to use noise gates and stuff like that for getting rid of noise. They eliminate cool little harmonic overtones and transients that can really take stuff like controlled feedback and complex sounding chords from OK sounding to WHOA sounding.

I prefer to use non-active methods of noise reduction such as good tubes, shielding guitars, noiseless pickups if needed. But even then with noiseless pickups sometimes it's a give and take situation.

Hendrix wouldn't have sounded the same with all the spitting, screeching, wailing, howling, and general sonic freakouts that was part of all that noisy, old, outdated technology. :D He just knew how to use noise to his advantage.

noise you'd think of as atmospheric is room noise or amp hum, not pickup hum or microphonic feedback.. they don't add to experience at all :burnout:

I think Hendrix would be using Duncan Stack Plus pickups if he was still playing out. Jimi used the best gear that was available at the time...and if he was here playing for us today, he'd be using the best gear available today. Lew

Jimi's usage of the Fuzz was revolutionary, he had a really dirty sound going on in a great great way. RIP James Marshall Hendrix.

A lot of Hendrix live albums have way too much Noise Reduction on them... (Same with some of The Who's when Pete used SG/p90's -like Isle Of Wight 1970) Hendrix just did the best with what he had and pushed everything to the limits! He used Vintage trems and went out of tune a lot but kept playing and making amazing sounds..... Hendrix has to be the finnest "did more with less" players out there in history...

electronic noise is the coolest thing about guitar. my favorite thing to do is play some heavy grindcore type riffs, then just hit the last chord and let my amp go crazyyyy...do the Hendrix "neck bend/feedback bend" trick and some cobain style antisolos...the neighbors hate that shizzzzzzzzzzz

I use noise to my advantage sometimes, like to get some cool overtones on a ringing note or chord, but I have my Boss NS-2 on almost all the time, save solos or those choice feedback moments. I also like to use the wah and its boost to create some cool controlled-pitch feedback.

Of course there are the times when it goes out of control, but that can sound cool, just like Jimi made it.

I think noise and feedback was a bit of Hendrix's sound, especially live. Without it, he'd never have been able to play The Star Spangled Banner the way he did.

Just so versatile with all of his music. From his VooDoo performance to live recordings of Little Wing... From noisey and insane, to accurate, clean cut and balanced.

If you guys ever get the chance to pick up the 80's live Hendrix doublle Record or CD called Concerts grab it!!!! It has some of his best moments caught on tape and the sound of the album is amazing... Hendrix's guitar sounds so full on this album!!!! I don't see many copies around anymore in the Used cd stores but if i see any i try and buy them. I bought the matching tab book to the album and to tell the truth it is pretty hard stuff for me to try and play! Hendrix's rythym style is hard for me to copy at times... Stone free on this album is a good example of that!

i would believe if there wasn't as much noise on his recordings, I could listen to them longer.

Jimi was a painter of music. His equipment was just the paintbrush. And to think he had only skimmed the surface of his potential. I frequently sit and ponder about people like Hendrix, Stevie Ray, and others who we lost before their respective primes were reached, and where they would have been musically by now if they were still slingin axes and having access to all this new technology.
I'm so glad they recorded as much as they did.

I think Jimi did reach his peak. People assume that a musician is going to just go on and on and expand and expand...but usually that's not the case.

It's a rare player who can maintain the energy and inspiration and continue to grow and grow.

Personally, I thought Hendrix peaked on Electric Ladyland and I didn't care nearly as much for the stuff he did after that.

The talent might still be there but the personality just gets tired and worn down and that effects your ability to stay fresh and create with enthusiasm.

Who would've thought that Eddie Van Halen would be making such uninspired music these days when they were listening to him play with all that fire in the beginning...back when he was probably the best guitarist on the planet???

No doubt about it. His rig was pretty basic but because cables and other accessory items were pretty poor by todays standards he had a lot of hum. Most of that was gone once he started playing live, but I would imagine in the studio it must have been a battle to get it to record as clean as it did.

I don't find the noise on any of his recordings to be that bad. (except for some of the live stuff that never would have been released if he lived) Once I sit down and really listen to it I don't even hear anything other than the music?? You can listen to some new bands that have all this modern technology at there fingertips and the recordings are crystal clear.... free from any noise..... except the "noise" they are making. So I guess what I am saying is the noise is as subjective as the music.
