I talked about it a whole lot in this thread here: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=148746&highlight=platinum

And now we finally get to see it! Here it is!

Whaddya think as compared to the stock guitar pictured in the first thread?

I love the guitar itself... nice and thick and crunchy.

Cool guitar, with your XTC I'm sure that thing can be a pure metal machine. EMGs are very clear, very powerful sounding pickups. The 81 can really rip your head off with overdrive (in a good way). With a lot of amps, you'd have to worry about excessive clipping on the cleans due to their design, but I'm sure with the XTC set right it stays clean.

I'm not against the color scheme myself, I think platinum is pretty pimp:

Nice, I always like the platinum gibbos. I'm sure those EMG's are gonna rip thru your XTC. I know my emg equipped LP rips thru my orange, so I can only imagine how a much nicer version (Gibson and bogner) will sound comparatively.

Re: Here it is... my Les Paul Studio Platinum

looks awesome. i like that a ton more than the entirely-chrome scheme

Re: Here it is... my Les Paul Studio Platinum

Congrats on the LP :) You should slap some chrome hardware on there though..... :32:

Re: Here it is... my Les Paul Studio Platinum

wow that thing looks much better with black hardware than the brushed silver it came with stock. finish off all the black with the tuners, screws, toggle, truss rod cover and all that and that thing will be extra bad ass! nice score.

They're both EMG 81's and they DO sound pretty friggen good. The response on them is GREAT! I'm not used to an electric guitar having such a rapid, accurate response. I'm more of a fan of the 85, though I've had some people tell me it might be too muddy in a Les Paul. I'd like it if I could take the 81's and make them a little more sensitive to harmonics. I haven't set up the guitar yet for my playing style and the volume levels I play at either so it feeds back a little more than I'd like. But it's all details. Overall a 9/10 as is.

Maybe one day I'll switch it to all black. Money's a little tight at the moment, though. I've been toying with the idea of putting a black mirror pickguard on, as well.

I've had it for about two weeks now... looks great and feels/sounds even better!

FWIW, the one dude from In Flames uses a pair of 85s in a Les Paul Custom, and his tone is definitely thick, some might consider muddy.

Try to get ahold of an EMG SPC control. It'll thicken up the mids.

I'd seen that there were some active tone control devices available from EMG on their site, but didn't read into them a whole lot. I'll check them out more later.

I like Alnico V magnets the best in my pickups and I found out that's what the 85 has in it as well... could be why I like it more. I'd like to try a 60A in the neck, too.

Re: Here it is... my Les Paul Studio Platinum

The 60A is my favorite neck pickup. It's pretty darn good in the bridge to. I wouldn't count out a set of 60's in a guitar.

There's your name: Dr. Evil!

This may be nit-picky, but I think I'd go black selector ring and nib....
