Here we go again...I don't think this is going to work

I decided to upgrade my machine heads on my Epiphone Les Paul at the same time as I'm upgrading the bridge. But after putting in the Low E machine head, I can see that the new tuning key is a little shorter in length than the original. This as you will see is causing the hole to be closer to the wood, and I doubt I will have enough room for the windings to go below the post.

I ordered these from The Stratosphere and he said Gibson and Epiphone.

Here are some photos and please advise:

Wait... I just placed the original tuner next to the new one side by side real close and now they appear to have the same length, about an inch. Maybe the new ones are an exact fit, but I don't know why I had the issue that the photos show.

Re: Here we go again...I don't think this is going to work

I've been monkeying around experimenting with using an original tuner and sliding it into different holes. When I slide it into the D string hole it doesn't look the same as it does when I slide it into the Low E string hole.

Looks like the height changes.

So I gotta ask are not all of these tuners the same?

Or do I gotta find which specific ones match which specific holes?

The hell with it. It looks like the string slot holes are just simply drilled too far down and that doesn't leave much room for the windings. Guess I'll return them.

Ok a few things:

1. Be patient. Seriously, we're not on call here 24/7 for your support.
2. Have a close look at all of them, make sure the bottom of the tuner is sitting flush with the headstock
3. Epiphones can be extremely inconsistent, do you have a link to the exact product you bought?
4. Stratosphere is just a guy who rips apart guitars and parts them out at inflated prices. **** that guy.
5. Pictures of the underside of the headstock would help.
6. Don't resort to the 'locking knot' thing, get the right tuners installed correctly.
