Here's A New Twist On The Teese Picture Wah

I'm returning it....Why you ask?

My Vox Wah sounds great...I Like the overall tonality of my Vox 847 better and my pedal is smoother after doing some further tweaking on it and A/Bing it with the Teese wah....My 847 has all of the best components in it like the Teese wah does,,,Here's what my tweaked out Vox 847 has in it...

Fulltone inductor
Fulltone pot
Power supply(My mods)
DPDT Switch,Carling for true bypass
Tweaked caps and key resistor changes on the board to make the pedal more vocal and has better sweep..

After listening alot today and doing some other ideas and changes to my Vox,I like my Vox more and so I'm getting my $235 back on this Teese....I Like the mids better on my Vox and my wah sounds a bit warmer and smoother...I realize that the pot and the inductor are the key to getting these wahs to sound right,but tweaking the board gets you more output,more gain,no tone sucking,and allows to adjust the mids and the smooth transistion of lows to highs....

Again I'm trusting in my own ears and my own mods and ideas on things...The Teese is still a great pedal and if you aren't into modding your own,is still a worthwhile investment...

Lew....Hello buddy...

My wah isn't a Fulltone wah...Mine is a reissue Vox 847 tweaked out by me to sound great...And it does sound great...It's even better than it was before I did some other things to it today..I don't own the fulltone wah though buddy...

LOL! I felt the exact same way! I sold my heavily tweaked VOX V847 /w a Fulltone pot for a Teese Wizard Wah, and I definitely regretted it. I'm glad you didn't sell your VOX before you came to your senses! :laugh2:

I've got great ears and I know when I hear good tone...My Vox 847 really sounds great...I've done some really good tweaks inside of my own wah but the fulltone pot and inductor makes alot of difference also...The 847 is a very cool looking wah with it's chrome top and all also...Glad I Kept it now.. :dance:

Fulltone is the name of Mike Fuller's effects company...He sells his own parts for wahs...1 is the inductor and the other is his potentiometer(Pot) for wahs..His products are very high quality and his wah parts bring a wah up to higher tone levels...I use his inductor and pot in my Vox 847 Wah...

Hmmm . . . yeah, I knew who Fulltone was. There kinda famous for their Fatboost - $10 worth of parts, and a circuit they lifted from Jack Orman's mini-booster webpage that they sell for around $180. :smack:
Makes me a bit skeptical about what their "pot" is. I can't imagine a potentiometer affecting the sound quality of any circuit - longevity, yes. Tone, no.

But I'll admit, I've been wrong before. I think. Its been awhile. :laugh2:

John just did a Mod on my old Crybaby ( a Thomas Organ Co.) from the 60's. I never really liked the way the wah sounded or worked. Now it has a huge amount of range where in the past the range was very short. He did put a Fullerton pot in it, and a whole bunch of other things, so I would say the pot does make a difference. He also modded a TS9 for me, and I gotta say that pedal was always good, now it is awesome. I will be making a detailed post about these two mods he did for me as soon as I am done running them through the gamut. But so far I gotta say I am very pleased with both!!! great work, and great sound!!

John, the reason I said what I said is that if you have a Fulltone pot and inductor, plus some of your own tweaks in your Vox, I assumed it had to be comparable to the Fulltone Clyde.

I have a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe and just couldn't imagine anything being better.

I thought maybe the Teese might equal it, but I could not imagine it being better than the Fulltone, because the Fulltone is the best Wah I've ever owned. It has the tone of the original Vox Clyde but the pedal sweep is longer and it has alot more range.

To my ears, no other Wah Wah has captured the tone of the original late 60's Vox Clyde I bought back around '68 or so except the Fulltone.

I have a one of those newer chrome topped Vox 847's...mine's stock and sounds better to me than any of the Crybaby versions from the 70's ( I have two of those) but it lacks some of the subtle, open, "muted trumpet" and "vocal" quality of the original Italian made Vox Clyde Model.

It wasn't until I bought the Fulltone that I heard that tone again...after about 30 years of living without it. Let's me sound more like Hendrix than any newer Wah I've ever tried or owned.

Mike's '69 Pedal is also my very favorite Fuzzface type clone...only like the Fulltone Clyde, it's even a little better than the original.

Ok, this is the last time I'll cast aspersions to Fulltone, but I'd still like to know, from a technical point of view, what the deal is with a Fulltone pot. As opposed to a CTS, for instance.

I'm' no tech, but I think Mike reverse engineered the old pots, then had his own manufactured to spec ...

I really like the sound of my Vox 847....It was just pretty good before,but I spent some time with my 847 again rethinking the circuit...I Just thought my 847 could be improved on and that I could get my $235 back on the Teese..I'm very happy with my ole wah..I A/Bed the two and I assure you that the Teese would have been a keeper if my Vox didn't sound every bit as good! You do have to use the new inductor and pot in order to get the vocal range needed though..It's a pricey mod,but it works..

Thanks! I missed you guys. Had a nice time away though and got myself rejuvinated and into a much better mood. Did a little camping, a little exploring and hiking and generally chilled. The mountains are great for that and gorgeous this time of year. Still a few aspens turning gold, but most have all pretty much peaked by now. Two weeks ago they were simply stunning! Lew

Artie...in a wah the pot makes all kinds of difference...The pot that has the most range gives the wah more of it's high to low range...Not only that,but the better the pot,the smoother the transition from low sweep to high sweep on the wah...The tweaks is icing on the cake but you still have to have a great inductor and pot in there to get the most tonal travel out of the wah...

lew....Teese knows wahs better than anyone else and he was an authorized repair guy for them many years ago..He was also the first person to actually get his hands on the actual inductor and pot info,plus he hooked up with one of the original designers of the wah...Teese's wahs sound great..Don't get me wrong,but I've managed to get alot of vocal range and great tone out of my 847...The Teese also has plenty of range and is very vocal...I just felt my wah sounds even smoother and ballsier because of the way I voiced it...The Teese is great but I didn't feel it was better than my 847 and that it was worth $235 after all the comparisons I was doing with both wahs....My ears tell me what's better and my 847 is even better than the Teese wah in tone..The Teese PW is a carbon copy of the 67 Vox Clyde McCoy Italian pedal also...I'd put my Vox up with anything currently out there...Including Fuller's wah...
