Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

If that guy thinks he's gonna get me to pay $15 shipping, he's out of his ****ing mind.

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

These might be useful for a pickup builder who wanted to make an exact replica of the '59 PAF to sell to the public. All they'd have to do is reverse engineer these and mass produce them for the non-millionaire guitarists of the world.

Oh wait ...

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

Money order or international wire transfer only? Hmmmm. And they don't ship 'till the money gets here.....

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

I'm only paying that much for double black. And you're right: He's gouging on the shipping. But if I had them I'd pull that DiMarzio X2N out of my Kramer Focus and put that bad boy in there. A 59 Paul already has enough sonic mojo without 59 pups! That would give my attemp at CC DeVille's "Talk Dirty to Me" solo the extra little something it needs to get the chicks.

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

Must be a typo error should be $14.99. No one will pay what's being asked...will they???

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

What if they made diamond pickups?

You were really rich would you pay over 15000??

The Diamond pup was the new '59, nobody wanted 59's they wanted 05' diamonds

Wounldnt that look awesome

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

Keep in mind that it's a double-cream and that is the rarest of the rare for PAF's and the most in-demand. The price is obviously not just for the sound, it's because there are so few of these things.

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

even if someone has the money and even if he is a collector and considering the fact that those pickups are indeed collectible i cannot justify that amount of money.......i would understand if the price was 3000 or 4000 or even 5000$ but ...............15000$ .......... LOL  .........come on....that's wire wound around a magnet.....................

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

If it's just wire around a magnet, even $3,000 to $4,000 is too much for me.

I wouldn't buy the thing anyway, except if I could afford it and then only for the purpose of turning around and selling it for a lot more later.

How much for Patton's pearl-handled revolvers? Are they any better than other pearl-handled pistols of the same make and model? No -- but they have a lot of historic value, as do the original PAF's.

But if we're talking about valuing something purely on its functionality, geez even $100 is too much for any pickup to me. So it would have to be one HELL of a pickup for $15 grand...

Should I ask the seller if I could replace the poles with allen screws and give them a hotter wind? Tell him I want to sound like Disturbed.

:laugh2: Hell, considering the insane price he's asking for, the mother****er has it coming. I say do it

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

What I wonder: Is a seller parting out old ES-175s or Byrdlands so someone can get an original PAF for their LP?

Re: Here's Something You Don't See Every Day

I would be tempted to just go to a pickup manufacturer and get them to handwind me a nice PAF clone, brand new, no issues and you know it'll work, oh and you're gonna save at least $14,500... No, in fact that IS what I would do...

But then like you say, they will probably be sold to a collector, so not as if it matters if they sound cr@p.

The DUMBEST thing (IMO of course) I see these days are the "aged" guitars. Beat up...paint chipped off, nicks and dings..etc etc...Buy a 3K instrument then pay someone else to beat it up a bit...

It's like the kids who post a big sign in the front windshield of their that says *NISSAN* or *HONDA* or whatever....anyone who gives a crap already knows what kind of car it is, and the rest of world thinks you look lke an idiot :D
+1.

...it must be a Connecticut thing...

As far as the pickup, for 15g's, Jesus himself better come out of that pickup and perform a miracle, like turn my hand's in Satriani's

Just how many has he owned?

And you guys have it all wrong. It's not $15,000 for a pickup. It's $15,000 for TWO pickups. That makes it a great deal!

He don't have nothin' comin' but $15,015 -- because I guarantee you he will get that price. Try to tell me you wouldn't charge that much if you had one and the market said you could get it...

Guarantee all you want but right now it's not lookin' too good for him. He's not going to get squat unless someone actually bids.
