You can always tell if the quality of the wood is good or not by the grain (of course there are other factors, but that's a big one), and that wood looks great!

Blonde would look killer IMHO. I've always like blonde/natural looking guitars. Now moreso than in the past. Swamp ash sounds killer with single coils, I love the "pop" that it gives. Sounds absolutely incredible to my ears.
